The Democratic Party needs to distinguish themselves from Republicans on this. They need to nip this in the bud and call for his resignation - period. They need to condemn any perception of ethical violations in the strongest terms. The Republicans are the party that gives Tom Delay a standing ovation and embraces their rotten to the core members. Democrats work to weed them out. That needs to be the message and they need to send it out now.

Someone has already been convicted of bribing you, that's a bad sign.Take responsibility for your actions.

3. Based on what I've seen and read....
I agree, the guy used his clout as a top member of the CBC (Congressional Black Caucus) to illegally funnel bribe money (Which he actually kept). And he's caught on tape doing it.

We need to be the party of no BS. Sadly, Congressman Jefferson screwed up, regardless of his intentions in the manner.

5. Another amen from me.
As I recall, he has demonstrated a pretty significant history of being fairly challenged in the ethics department.

6. To paraphrase a once great Dem "Its the perception, stupid"
He can argue his guilt or innocence later, on his own dime. If it was less obvious that he's quite likely guilty, I can stand begind him, but this is either the biggest setup since Barry Bonds' record breaker or he's as innocent as 'the bitch set me up' Marion Barry.
