Any red-blooded hetero American male would fawn over them.

12. No....no doubt...
..."fawning", to me, implied they weren't deserving of such attention. In my books they are, for reasons not the least of which are their smokinhottieness. That's a word, I made it up.B-)

That...and their unrepentant, anti-Bush positioning, of course!

That wasn't how I meant 'fawning'
I meant it to be more an admiration. As in 'swoooooooon'

3. Woo-hoo...
Love them Chicks!

Y'know, it's kinda nice to be able to say "chicks" without sounding like a sexist asshole. Which makes me love them even more.

8. They need our support now...
I was reading in weither TIME or NEWSWEEK (whichever was in the dictor's office, I don't remember) this afternoon that extensive polling has been done by Red State radio stations to see if they should lift their ban on these ladies, and found that Right-Wing Red Staters "hated them", and that it was still "visceral". So, the boycott will stand. I don't get it. But, they will need our support if they are going to continue to sell records.

Neil Young, Pearl Jam, Eminem, The Boss, Green Day... all have recorded protest songs. None of them are being boycotted for them. It appears that when the protest comes from three Southern women, it doesn't sit right with all those Right-Wingers.

10. i have a feeling that since their anti-bush remarks, they have sold more..
..CDs than ever before. bush's popularity is in the crapper. 70%+ of americans agree with natalie maines.

they don't need right wing white trash radio to promote their music, their notoriety and scrappiness is doing that better than clear channel ever could.

14. I actually hope you're right!
It's still pretty sad and unfair that they are being boycotted while the males aren't.

Free speech is in the crapper these days, and sexism is alive and well!

23. well, it might not be sexism........
....i think the reason there's not a big deal over neil young, bruce sprinsteen and the like is because they have a long vocal history of being progressive politically and antiwar. the white trash never bought any of their records anyway. the dixie chicks were sweethearts of the country music scene and a lot of bush-suckers owned their CDs. when natalie bravely showed her true colors by criticizing the fascist bush admin, the wingnuts felt like they were stabbed in the back.

i used to work with some bush-suckers and when natalie maines made her anti-bush remarks one of these co-workers sent his dixie chicks CDs back to them and demanded a refund.

13. KO was talking a bit about that .......
... they've pretty much given the finger to their country music fans. They've made some less than kind comments about the people who still support Il Dunce. The entertainmnet talking head who was on said they've probably already started going in a different direction ... more ..... I dunno ... top 40, or however he termed it.

I heard them last night on Letterman when they sang Not Ready to Make Nice ...... and the way they sang it seemed to me pretty 'un-country'.

Whichever way they go, this old fart's on their side.

15. On the subject of radio station music/artist bans....
Is it just me, or does it ALWAYS seem that bible belt radio stations are at the vanguard of this ridiculous practice? Started with Lennon's "bigger than Jesus" hubbub in the 60's I would think.

Just an observation...

18. I think it less to do with them being women, and more to do...
with them being in country music. Neil Young, Pearl Jam, Eminem, and Green Day are all part of rock/rap which still has a lot of in your face/fuck you attitude. Modern day country music (a lot of it) is all about family values and love of the good old U.S.A.. It started with that damn Lee Greenwood and that horrible "God Bless the USA" song. That song is so over the top that only true freepers don't want to vomit when they hear it. :puke:

According to Scarborough they are changing their image to popular. They are just doing what the majority of Americans are doing. Do you think Joe knows how dumb he sounded? Enjoy your new Chicks album.

25. Gawdgimmeabreak ... Joe and the talkin' ninnies
"They'll *never* be on country music stations again"

Yanno ..... I get the distinct feeling they kinda don't give a shit. They wear that animosity toward them as a badge of courage.

I don't know that to be fact, but it sure seems that way. Why else would they release a song called "Not Ready to Make Nice" if they were .... yanno?
