Edited on Tue May-23-06 08:34 PM by cal04
The 58-40 roll call Tuesday by which the Senate voted to pass an amendment increasing fines for employers found to be employing illegal immigrants and to subject repeat offenders to prison terms. On this vote, a "yes" vote was a vote to approve the amendment and a "no" vote was a vote to defeat it. Voting "yes" were 41 Democrats, 16 Republicans and one independent. Voting "no" were two Democrats and 38 Republicans. http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washington/articles/2006/05/23/senate_rollcall_immigration/Immigration Vote http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=109&session=2&vote=00140U.S. Senate Roll Call Votes 109th Congress - 2nd Session (2006) http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/vote_menu_109_2.htm

2. Just the cost of doing business |
|
Unless the penalty is severe, it won't matter. The Senate is determined to give into big business and shaft working Americans out of their jobs.

4. Whatever the penalty, it will encourage businesses to ... |
|
discriminate. That is so much easier, and under this Administration safer, than trying to check backgrounds.
The Dems would do better to try to pass a law fining businesses that pay below minimum wage. What, that's already against the law? Not so that you'd notice.

5. Well, you have made 2 good points. But to only target the min. wage |
|
still does not address the huge over supply in of labor in the construction trades, agriculture, etc. that illegals have created.
