(Actually, it's 3 Free news songs in RealAudio or MSMedia Player) from their new CD are on line at NPR, along with their on-air and web-only interviews, but the song "Not Ready to Make Nice" is just awesome!

The on-air interview explains a lot about the crap the went through for one of them making one simple statement at a club, in London.

I highly recommend the interviews too, but definitely check out "Not Ready to Make Nice."

Dixie Chicks Return, 'Taking the Long Way'

Listen to this story...(at link above)
by Melissa Block

All Things Considered, May 23, 2006 · The Dixie Chicks are back after a three-year break from recording with a new album, Taking the Long Way. Sisters Emily Robison and Martie Maguire and lead singer Natalie Maines all had babies during the hiatus.

They also were contending with the furious backlash against a remark in 2003 by Maines that criticized President Bush and the then-pending invasion of Iraq. At a concert in London just before the Iraq war, Maines told the crowd, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas," the state the bandmates call home.

After the comment, many country music radio stations boycotted the Dixie Chicks' music. The band also faced anti-Dixie Chicks demonstrations, which sometimes included the public destruction of their CDs.

People may assume that the new album's content is predominantly political, a response to what happened to the group in 2003 -- one song is entitled "Not Ready to Make Nice." In part, they say, the album is a way to address that experience.

1. I'm not a fan of country music but
That song "not ready to make nice" is great and by all standards should be a hit.
The other two are not bad ether, sounds like an album that will sell well for them.

2. Bought it yesterday
I am not a big country music guy but The Chicks are not "todays country". I think we should all buy a copy to show support and to send a message to those who try to stifle dissent. Also picked up Neal Young's Living With War. Two fantastic albums. Buy them both TODAY!

6. So, what do you think of the rest of the songs? I heard only a few...
...were political in nature. The title track sounded pretty good too.

After you've listened to it a few times, let us know.

3. Even if you don't like the Dixie Chicks
Spend a few extra bucks and buy the CD -- or at least get a couple of songs off itunes -- to show your support for them.

4. That's exactly how I feel...
...I was never a Dixie Chicks fan, but what a great way to send a message to those who told them to shut up?

If nothing else, spend $1-$5.00 on i-Tunes or where ever else people get downloaded music.:kick:

8. "Not Ready To Make Nice" LYRICS
"Not Ready To Make Nice" <http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/dixiechicks/notreadytomakenice.html>

Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I’m not sure I could
They say time heals everything
But I’m still waiting

I’m through with doubt
There’s nothing left for me to figure out
I’ve paid a price
And I’ll keep paying

I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

I know you said
Can’t you just get over it
It turned my whole world around
And I kind of like it

I made my bed and I sleep like a baby
With no regrets and I don’t mind sayin’
It’s a sad sad story when a mother will teach her
Daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger
And how in the world can the words that I said
Send somebody so over the edge
That they’d write me a letter
Sayin’ that I better shut up and sing
Or my life will be over

I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I’m not sure I could
They say time heals everything
But I’m still waiting
