3. Gert is wonderful
I had the great pleasure in New Hampshire on 2004 Primary day to spend 15 minutes with her and about four other Clark supporters standing talking together in the NH winter gathered in front of a voter polling station. She really was delightful. I felt like I already knew her for years, talking with her is like talking with your absolutely favorite neighbor. Very real and down to earth with a wonderful straight forward energy and a delightful sense of humor. Gert knows how to pull off a high level State Dinner perfectly, she's been there and done that extremely well. But Gert seems equally as natural over coffee and cookies.

I remember thinking at the time, what a wonderful friend this woman could make if circumstances allowed that. I don't care how popular she might be, I never get that feeling about Laura Bush. America would be delighted to know Gert Clark better. I am glad to hear that she is getting this honor.

4. Something I thought of when I first saw the pic
What good looking, happy people Democrats are. A simplistic statement, but it was an instantaneous reaction.

5. I've been lucky enough
To get to speak to Gert on several occassions. She's so easy to talk to, every bit as open and "real" as her husband, and is usually not mobbed the way he is at political events.

A couple of my favorite photos were taken in Lincoln NE back when Clark was surrogating (if that's a word) for Kerry at their Dem party JJ dinner equivalent. This one is just a bunch of us "girls":

And this one is Wes and Gert with my two kids. I mentioned to Gert I wanted get a photo of the four of them, and she walked right over to her husband and grabbed him away from some state party big-wigs (I was sort of embarrassed by that, since that was part of what he was there for). The lighting wasn't too good, but I treasure the photo anyway.

11. Your Kids are really cute Jai!
And Gert really is a superbly down to earth and a beautiful woman!

Wes Clark is really lucky to have her...and of course, so is she to have him....

After 34+ years of marriage, it is easy to see why they would be so much in love!

A classic pair, those two!

7. Aw, how nice for Gert!
And she deserves it.

I've had the joy of speaking with her a couple of times (on the Staten Island Ferry once and at Charlie Rangel's birthday party....maybe a couple of other times) and she really is so easy to talk to as others have said. It really is like talking to someone you've known forever. Both she and the General have a gift for making one feel comfortable and important and like you could tell them anything while talking to them.

8. I had the pleasure of shaking her hand once
at a Clark event. She is so wonderful, and would be the BEST first lady.
