No Gore ‘08 - from Today Show Interview
Edited on Wed May-24-06 01:12 PM by kerrygoddess
No Gore ‘08
May 24th, 2006 @ 11:05 am

There’s been a lot of hype in the liberal blogosphere over the recent weeks about whether or not Al Gore was preparing for an ‘08 run. The hype has come on the wake of a round of public appearances by Gore to promote his new documentary, “An Inconvenient Truth.” The film chronicles Gore’s efforts to bring attention to the dangers of Global Warming.

In an interview on the Today Show this morning Gore said, “I don’t intend to be a candidate ever again.”

Gore did clarify his statement further, not quite ruling out a run…

“I have no plans to be a candidate, and no intention of being a candidate,” Gore said in the interview broadcast on NBC’s “Today” show. But he added: “I’ve said I’m not at the stage of my life where I’m going to say never in the rest of my life will I ever think about such a thing.”

“I am involved in a kind of a campaign, but it’s not for a candidate,” Gore said in the interview. “It’s a campaign to change the minds of the American people about this climate process.”

1. He's totally running.
But as soon as he says it, it's over. Gore's coy like that.

P.S. he's going to win, AGAIN.

30. I agree...Gore is only being coy. I believe he's running more and more
The day he announces he's running, he's a candidate. This way he can test the waters, recieve acclaim, and remain above the fray.

10. This is the elephant in the room today.
There is no way in hell, with the way DC really works, that anybody can clean up this mess without the same kind of uniform power that the re:puke:s have had to create this disaster in the first place.

A "centrist" President and a divided legislative will accomplish exactly nothing, giving the re:puke: candidates the "see, they're incompetent" platform to run on in the next cycle.

I think he's pretty happy with his life right now, and why should he go through all the aggrivation of a dirty, mean and nasty campaign?

and NO ONE is as certain to open the books on BushInc as Kerry - And this nation NEEDS the books opened and a real anti-corruption, open government leader in the White House if ANYTHING is going to seriously change in this country.

35. That's it? Do you know NOTHING about the last 30 years of history and
US government?

Had Clinton and Gore opened the books on BushInc and taken advantage of all the WORK Kerry did to expose the terrorist banks and financial networks there would have BEEN no 9-11 and NO Iraq war.

Or did that part of our recent history escape your notice?

What did you think his 1997 book The New War was about?

41. Did you forget about that "terrorist threat assessment" ..................
.....Clinton/Gore handed the Idiot administration that was then immediately put in "file 13"?? The Clinton administration obviously didn't ignore the issue. Also, did you forget that the neocon/fundie Congress wouldn't ok the money to go after Bin Laden, which then set up 9/11? There is blame on all sides but I still think Gore would make the better President and Kerry would be a great VP, although I do think Feingold would be an even better VP. I don't necessarily dislike Kerry I'm just picking what I think would be the perfect ticket. Again, if Kerry gets the nomination I will vote for him whether he's my first choice or not.

Edited on Thu May-25-06 08:33 AM by blm
that tracked terror funding that HE WROTE. Who do you think was HELPING with it? Clinton and Gore weren't experts on terrorism networks - they depended on those who were - but that was just in containing the threats, not dealing with them at the root the way Kerry would. But, that takes opening the books.

Clinton and Gore could have saved alot of time and alot of lives by OPENING THE BOOKS on BushInc in 1993 and exposing all the players in the international network that were FUNDING Terrorists, including Poppy Bush and his cronies.

They should have listened to Kerry instead of Poppy Bush and Alan Greenspan.

open the books on BushInc and REFUSED? They went AGAINST Kerry who wanted the books opened - they went AGAINST Lawrence Walsh who wanted the books opened.

Had Clinton-Gore opened the books on IranContra and BCCI, there would have been NO 9-11 and NO Iraq war.

But, then, both Clinton and Gore SUPPORTED Reagan and Bush's Contra policies before they took office and helped downplay the CIA drugrunning story when they were in office. So they had reason to want to keep the books closed.

Kerry investigated and EXPOSED IranContra, BCCI, illegal wars in Central America and CIA drugrunning - he has every reason to OPEN THE BOOKS.

And you have a fantasy about Gore - Try putting Gore in the senate in 2002 and see how he would have voted - especially since when he was campaigning in 2000 he pledged to get TOUGHER on Iraq than Clinton - and Clinton sided with the use of force resolution.

And those who blame the IWR instead of Bush for violating the IWR don't even realize they let Bush off the hook every time they do it. Had Clinton, Gore or Kerry been president, the IWR would have PREVENTED war - they would have allowed the weapons inspections and diplomacy measures that were in the IWR to determine whether military action was needed.

Blaming the iWR sure let's Bush off the hook for VIOLATING it.

42. There's definitely enough blame for everyone but no I don't........
....."....have a fantasy about Gore...", I simply think he could take on the neocons/fundies - with a nothing to loose attitude - and get more done. The bottom line here is that you have your favorite and I have mine but I hope if your favorite doesn't win the Democratic nomination that you would still plug your nose, if need be, and vote for that Democratic nomination whoever it is. My ultimate goal here is to get the neocons/fundies out of control and let them know what it's like to be the minority party for the next ten to twenty years. Now, if that approach bothers anyone for whatever reason - oh well.

Is Gore helped when people make claims about him that any history student can prove untrue? The entire Dem party is hurt when their own followers don't even know enough about history to get the FACTS straight on what has been going on the last 30 years.

I think it's shameful the way DU Dems regularly attack the one man who investigated and exposed more government corruption than any lawmaker in modern history and laud those who worked AGAINST him to continue the coverup.

Not me. I side with the Anti-corruption, Open government wing of the Democratic Party.

1. Democrats value honesty--it wouldn't be very smart politcally to say this and then reverse himself unless for a very good and unexpected reason.

2. He's deeply involved in being a media guy. His global warming movie is coming out, and if successful he'll want to do more. He's a part-time senior adviser for Google. He's on the board at Apple Computer. He's an investor in Current TV. He's using media to get his messages about environmental and social responsibility out, and it's a full-time job.

3. He founded Generation Investment Management, which puts money from institutions and wealthy people into companies which are going green and/or are socially responsible. (by the way, two companies he likes are General Electric, which has recently pledged to go green, and Whole Foods.)

4. He is a successful lecturer, making anywhere from $75,000 to $150,000 for his appearances. And he does unpaid ones too. He's making a comfortable living, needless to say.

If I were him, I'd want to just keep on doing good things this way--keep the momentum going. I just saw an interview with John Kerry, and the interviewer told him that Al Gore had said that he was "over it" the next day after the election was decided against him. Kerry's answer was totally different--he said he's got "unfinished business" and clearly still has a fire in him to run. And you have to have that to go through it again, especially knowing how hard it will be from first-hand experience. But Gore doesn't seem to have that.

I got my facts on Gore from Forbes Magazine; you can find it at Forbes.com.

20. He is considering it, at least.
Every politician denies that they are running for President until they decide to formally announce, even though they are assembling a team. Gore may not know for certain yet, but judging by his statement he is at least considering it. Even Hillary is denying that she is going for a 2008 Presidential run, and we know damn well she intends to do it.

That could be interesting... Hillary Clinton vs Al Gore. What will Bill have to say? Could be VERY interesting. I hope he runs, as I believe he is the only one in the Democratic Party capable of stopping the Hillary juggernaught. He is the only one who can bring both the left and the center together without shutting either side out. The only thing I would ask from Al this time is for him to ditch his former advisers. They sucked... literally. They sucked the life and personality right from him. Be yourself Al, and you will make it. You will outshine Hillary: a candle compared to a star.

23. BINGO.......
Al is in a dance with HC. He will not utter the "C" word until HC does. HC is trying to deflect the dems to not focus on 2008 and to focus on 2006 'like me' (HC). This while lining up huge coffers and allies like R. Murdock and others. Her hopes are to emerge from the other side of Nov. with an overwhelming commanding lead that no one could over come.

For this reason I'm urging to throw water on all the "pushes" to not focus on anything other than 2006. We can and I trust will, be able to focus on more then one item at a time. Besides if HC actually believed her 2006, only, focus, she wouldn't be running around with all the behind the curtain deals she's been doing. When the magician is trying to do something with the right hand she waves the left hand out in the open for all to easily see. If we are smart and don't fall for the tactics, 2006 will be the year the progressives see fruit in a long 35 year struggle to get our agenda on the table. The people will like what we have to offer once WE can write the platform. Stay the course.. Free the people..

29. Yup, Biden and Dodd have announced and for the same reason
Because neither of them have a national rep or a national fund raising machine. They are long shots at best.

There are two potential candidates who can definitely wait a long time before committing to run (or not run) and they are Gore and HRC. Both can have a national campaign and major donors lined up in less than 24 hours.

Kerry and Edwards can wait awhile, but not as long. Kerry because many people have not forgiven him for losing 2004 (sorry, it's true). And Edwards because a big part of his appeal (especially to the media) was that he was a hot, rising star who had rocketed from nowhere into the Senate and was on an unstoppable path to the White House. But his rise got stopped and that storyline has been handed down to Barrack Obama.
