If you like political novels, look for a copy of "Night of Camp David"
by Fletcher Knebel. It's 40 years old but somewhat prophetic...about a mentally disturbed Prez (A Dem in the book but it -is- fiction) ;-)

I happened across my copy in a box whilst looking for something else last night and read it again. It starts out with the Prez proposing the exact same telephone eavesdropping system Chimp instituted. Yikes.

2. Thanks for the heads up on that one.
I had not heard of it. I'll check out a couple of used bookstores for it.

Let me return the favor and suggest two:

"The Man" by Irving Wallace. The story of the first un-elected Black President,

and

"The Last President" by Michael Kurland and S.W. Barton. The premise is: What if the man responsible for Watergate remained in office because the crime was never exposed. It's the story what happens when tyranny becomes a way of life in America. Basically a "It Can't Happen Here" ala Nixon. That one is only 26 years old.

3. Yeah, I remember that book
from when it first came out, which indicates how old I am! I'd forgotten any plot details, but recall that it was good. Should take another look at it.

4. Also from Fletcher K.: "The Dark Horse"
about a candidate whose campaign is destroyed -- great political intrigue.

6. Yes, I had (may still have) a copy stashed away somewhere,
I need to dig my books out of the boxes and buy another bookshelf.
;-)

5. I;ll have to check back for even more ideas because I like.........
....political intrigue - the political "what ifs" can give us a lot of insight into today and also what to avoid.
