Andrew Sullivan nails Coulter good!!! |
|
I don't agreee with everything this guy says but he's one of the few cons I like. I could imagine drinking a beer with this guy and having a good laugh over this whole god damned mess!!!!
Coulter Kampf 08 Jun 2006 11:54 am
The Anchoress, whom I fondly remember from years back when we were just email friends, unloads on Pajama Media's big current advertizer. So does Rick Moran. Their comments are fair, it seems to me, and a good sign of how lively and internecine conservative debate now is. (Check out the Ramesh-Derb-Jonah cluster-cluck for another leading indicator.) But the problem with Coulter is that she is a form of camp, is she not? The minute you take her seriously, you lose grip on her reality. She's not a social or political commentator. She's a drag queen impersonating a fascist. I don't even begin to believe she actually believes this stuff. It's post-modern performance-art. I think of Coulter in that sense as more at home on the pomo-left than the Christianist right (which is why the joke, ultimately, is on the Republicans who like her). Devoid of sincerity, detached from any value but performance, juggling rhetoric for its own sake, she is Stanley Fish's model student. Half the time, I tend to think that a Hannity or O'Reilly or Malkin actually believes their own rhetoric. With Coulter, I don't believe it for a second. And so her vileness cannot be taken seriously. She is worse than vile. She is just empty.

3. Sully's coming around. |
|
He actually seems like an intelligent guy, even during the first dark days of the Shrubocracy. But even he can't diguise the ugliness of a movement gone terribly, tragically wrong.
And WTF is the "pomo-left"?? :wtf:

at least that seems to fit with his comparison. Kind of an interesting statement for an early Friday morning.
When I first scanned over it, I thought it was porno too, and couldn't quite figure out where that came from

She truly believes the shit she spews, as do so many others on your side believe that garbage and far worse.
That's what it is that you really don't like. She's on your side and so is far worse than her.
Nice try.

|
the stupid, racist, idiotic, fear-filled traits of the Republicans.
She is PURE neoconservatism.
She is the archetype for the GOP.
And people? Tell EVERYBODY THAT YOU KNOW that she is.

I've heard him talk enough to understand exactly where he comes from. He jumped right over the barricade of strong, broad anti-gay hatred to join them.
He supported the war stridently and antagonistically. He supports everything about them except the fact that they hate his very existence.
The only thing he doesn't like is that BushCo is such a fuckup. His basic beliefs haven't changed.

32. Sullivan is not a right winger. |
|
I don't think you've been reading his blog over the past several years. Otherwise, you would know that, not only did he support Kerry, but he has criticized George Bush for bungling the war, exploding the deficit, incompetence on Katrina, cynically exploiting the debates over gay marriage and Terry Schiavo, and (at least) facilitating Abu Ghraib and Guantanomo, thus, in Sullivan's opinion, dishonoring this nation. He's also attacked the rise of right-wing fundamentalists in the Republican party by referring to them as "Christianists" (a term analogous to "Islamicists"), as well as criticizing Republicans for corruption and pandering.
The gay marriage issue is a big one for Sullivan, but he has a lot of issues with the present-day Republican party. Dismissing him as a "winger" is simply false.

11. coulter's role is to show that the rest of 'em are NOT extremists |
|
one can argue wether or not coulter herself believes the crap she spews, but that's beside the point.
more on target is what about the decision to give her rantings airtime. they trot her out so that they can set people's expectations for right-wing extremism as so far out there that the rest of the banana republicans can appear level-headded and moderate compared to coulter.
just as a frame of reference, not so long ago pat buchanan used to occupy that seat. remember how he used to be the gold standard for the extreme right wing voice? well, pat buchanan's politics haven't changed one bit, but he now sounds like the voice of reason because today's banana republicans are to the RIGHT of pat buchanan!
so they give that role to coulter now, so that shrub can seem reasonable when he's robbing from the poor to pay the rich and sending poor kids to die just to keep oil profits high, simply because he doesn't advocate open murder of liberals.

Time to stop calling it the Christian Right and use Sullivan's meme. 'Cause we all know the ones causing all the trouble aren't Christians, they just misuse the label.

What the hell is he talking about? Remember when writers used to write for their readers instead of for each other? Isn't "pomo" Australian slang for British people? Fuck coolness.

30. POMO is short for Post-Modern. |
|
Actually I've just started reading Post-Modernism: The Cultural Logic of Late Capitalism. Fairly heady stuff and difficult however its not superficial. We are indunated by the PostModern aesthetic in every facet of life. Post modernism is about surface, it rejects depth, it rejects meaning, think of a Warhol print, Warhol is only concerned with surface. .

She is empty. But so what? If a segment of society is cheering her on because she is willing to state what they actually believe (never mand the facts) then she is dangerous.
