We Are Now Less Than 3 Months Away From The 5th Anniversary Of 9-11 |
|
Edited on Sat Jun-17-06 10:33 AM by Mark E. Smith
I do not understand why Democrats have not begun a discussion on this. Rather than focusing on the narrow issue of a time-table for removing our troops from Iraq, shouldn't we be talking about the gross failures of the Bush administration to make any progress in its so-called "War On Terror?"
It is nearly 5 years after 9-11, and not only is Osama bin Laden still at large, but his al Qaeda terrorist organization continues to kill Americans. The 3,000 Americans who perished on 9-11 remain unavenged, and their murderer continues to kill our people nearly unchecked.
By any measure this has got to be regarded as an historic failure by the Bush administration. After the expenditure of half a trillion dollars, plus American military casualties numbering in the 10s of thousands, not only has al Qaeda and its allies been able to keep up their assault on the West, but by all measures they are stronger now than ever before.
And yet Bush's handlers continue to project the myth that this incompetent president is the indispensable man in fighting terror.
Why are we not discussing President George W. Bush's horrific failures to defeat terrorism? Why is it the Republicans believe they can present themselves to the American people as the party most likely to defend this country from terrorism in the face of their myriad failures to do so?
It is now 5 years on. Nothing has been accomplished. Why is it Bush's failures here are not being discussed?

1. There'll be a Republican orgy on that date this year |
|
An orgy of fake outrage and fake grief and flagwaving and adulation for Bush.
All in hopes that it will win them support that will last till the election.

2. A beaten nation, sanctioned to death, spied on, no fly zoned, |

bombed, and harrassed for a decade..... taking the worlds greatest military forces out for a spin. I hope they are enjoying the ride. Truly amazing.... and we want to take on Iran next.... the repugs are truly a curse upon America.

3. To me 9-11 has become the American version of the burning of the Reichstag |
|
9-11 is nothing but a pretext to unleash a Judeo-Christian Crusade on an unsuspecting world.

5. This foul regime will merely |

retort with their standard response, i.e., "There hasn't been a domestic terror attack since 9/11..." ergo Bush is great and a successful "War President". Excuse me while I barf.
I live in New York City. Near where I live is a building housing some major power/electric control center. Whatever is in there is important & secret enough that the building is completely unmarked and (deliberately) anonymous-looking. Immediately after 9/11 the streets surrounding this building (like other important locations) were barricaded tightly with those immense concrete berms/fortifications. After awhile, and as the years passed, the blockades just blended into the scenery and I sort of stopped noticing them. Sometime in the last month or so they were removed. Not sure how to interpret this.

6. Besides the facts that you mention, there is also the fact that in |

five years we have not prepared our major cities for another attack. I guess all of their energies have been spent of fighting them over there instead of preparing for another attack that is sure to come. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/nation/3977370.html
