Newly released emails suggest Army Corps lied about Cheney role in Halliburton contract

Avery Walker
Published: Thursday June 15, 2006

New documents obtained by a conservative watchdog group suggest that the US Army Corp of Engineers may have publicly lied regarding the involvement of the Vice President's office in awarding a 2003 multi-billion dollar, no-bid contract to Kellogg Brown and Root, a subsidiary of Halliburton, RAW STORY has learned.

RAW STORY has obtained a copy of the emails, which were acquired by the government watchdog group Judicial Watch under the Freedom of Information Act.

The newly released emails show the Army Corps attempting to deflect attention from Cheney's office by distributing talking points that would mask Cheney's purported role. The Corps could not immediately be reached for comment.

1. What was the name of the whistleblower who got demoted as a result
of questioning how military contracts were being awarded? Bunny ...
I wonder if she oversaw the Army Corps. contracts as well?
Anyone hear anything more about her situation?

22. Bunnatine Greenhouse, yes
She was demoted and removed from her position as the Army's chief contracting officer. You can read about her in Wikipedia, which has some good links as well.

You can donate to her defense fund here. Every time I see a Repug crook like Delay and Libby whining for money to pay their lawyers, I'm going to donate to Bunny instead. I hope I can afford it.

God bless Bunny!

3. Your tax dollars going to pay off Cheney and his billionaire friends
while the US keeps borrowing to pay real debts. Hope Cheney enjoys his time on earth because he is going to have pay for actions eventually.

6. One thing is for sure...HE CAN'T TAKE IT WITH HIM!
So he can steal, manipulate and lie...but one day, he too will be dust and all this money and power won't mean a damned thing and his daughter will give her inheritance to the Gay and Lesbian causes in an effort to make up for her father's treason against his fellow men.

15. I have seen no evidence whatsoever that Mary Cheney
feels any concern for other gay people or their rights. He interests seem to be as entirely selfish as her father's and mother's. She wouldn't give up a penny of her ill-gotten gains for anyone.

17. I should have written "sarcasm" after my comment. I doubt that
she will be of ANY service to Gay and Lesbian Rights.

9. TONS. He has delayed stock options "held in blind trust"
(which Frist has shown us isn't very blind, at all.) He "claims" that any profits will be given to charity - but his veracity doesn't have a very good track record. My hope is that he goes down in history as one of the biggest frauds and defrauders of the US Govt.

12. It can be legal if no prosecutor will try him
You don't need a friendly judge, a plea bargain or anything else as long as the Justice Department is less interested in protecting the public interest than it is in protecting the vice president's investment portfolio. And Unka Dick gots to get paid.

14. How can the trust be blind when it contains only Halliburton options?
OK, rhetorical question. Good point about Catkiller. He taught us that "blind trust" was a sentiment he hoped others would have about his financial arrangements, but the term turned out to be descriptive of nothing else regarding his schemes.

18. Robber barons...
although this is much worse than those who amassed vast fortunes a century ago, because the current robbers are making their's off of your and by tax dollars rather than just cornering open markets.

And Cheney has been the head of the spear to make this all possible.

This is the biggest mass ripoff in history.
