Wes Clark defending Dems...again
Wes Clark is always urging us to call in to right wing talk shows to try to get the truth out there, no matter how distasteful that may be.

Well, just one of the wonderful things about Wes is that he won't ask us to do anything he's not willing to do himself....

This was posted on CCN this evening:

While on the road, General Clark was listening to the radio and caught Newt Gingrich attacking Democrats on Iraq while on Hannity's radio show (Hannity is on vacation so it is some stand-in guy doing the show). Standard wingnut name calling. Bringing up Vietnam and Jane Fonda. Calling people unpatriotic. Well, Wes Clark wasn't gonna put up with that. General Clark called into the show himself, and went to the defense of Dems. We were able to record the audio. Listen here: http://www.streamload.com/securingamerica/public/WKC_hannity062206.mp3

He kicked Newt's ass after-the-fact.......and got respect on that show!

12. I have an honest disagreement with him on a few points, but on balance
he ROCKED! **That** is **exactly** the kind of thing Dems should be doing. My disagreements with him on what he spoke about are minor and not germaine to this thread. I think the point in posting this is how **all** Dems should be speaking out at every opportunity. Can you imagine if we had all our Dems using their free moments to call in to the winger radio shows? I dare say there's not a one of them who would refuse a Dem some air time if they called in.

Wow! Talk about a 'Rapid Response Team'. Gingrich's studio seat couldn't have been cold yet and there's a credible debunker debunking.

How much effort can this kind of thing take? You hear something and you call. You say who you are and the screener will put you through in a heartbeat.

Kudos to Clark on this one.

29. Wes and Max Cleland always stick up for Dems under media attack - and
they did it throughout 2004 as virtual unknowns while big name Dems failed to show up on the news programs and counter the likes of Giuliani, McCain and Dole who were all over the airwaves for Bush.

This party needs Dems who will STICK and stand up for each other.

53. Yes. It is. What he and Murtha are doing - is simple: HITTING BACK.
We HAVE TO hit back. We just HAVE TO.

NEVER - and I MEAN NEVER - let the enemy get the last word.

NEVER - and I MEAN NEVER - let what the enemy says go unanswered.

NEVER - and I MEAN NEVER - let them have sole custody of the microphones.

SOMEBODY from our camp - SOMEBODY - HAS TO speak up. ALWAYS.

We must ALWAYS throw in our two cents. Or MORE than two cents.

Rapid response. Carville did it successfully for Clinton. And it got RESULTS. Unarguable RESULTS.

They NEVER let a beat pass between some shit statement from the bad guys and a strong, resolute response. And not just a strong, resolute response but also an IMMEDIATE response.

I'm DELIGHTED to see Wesley Clark jump in like this. EVERY DAMNED ONE of our Dems should follow suit. NO excuses. NO waffling. NO second-guessing. NO pauses. NO handwringing. NO wondering what it's gonna look like or what hastert or frist is gonna say about it. FUCK 'EM. NO ifs, ands or buts. Butt-inskis, though, are another matter. WE need to BUTT IN. AT EVERY TURN, EVERY OPPORTUNITY.

31. Note the style
Whenever I've heard Wes Clark take on the neo-cons, he always starts with saying something "positive." Then he acknowledges the argument and bullets his differences. His goal was to destroy Newt's credibility by pointing out his useless name calling, and to defend the Democrat right and need to dissent.

I teach persuasive argument, and this is how it's done. No one listens to what you have to say if you start out by telling them that they are stupid, instead they tune you out. I don't know if the General has studied persuasive argument (although since he was a member of the debate teams at WPoint and Oxford, one think that perhaps he has) but he definitely controlled the conversation.

We may not be famous Democrats, but we too can do this. It is all about the style.

When will American politics include real debates?

Wes Clark is really, really good at rebuttal, and getting his point across. He decided the perimeters of this phone call, and would have done the same Hannity or no.

has learned that 'debates' aren't debates -- they're 'soundbite' contests.

He seems to have mastered the art of taking control of the conversation and getting his point across, regardless of the mumblings from the MSM.

35. Just listened to it -- he totally took down Gingrich
He got his points across, but the amazing thing is that he managed to take down Gingrich's smears, defend all democrats no matter where they stand on Iraq, and STILL appear nonpartisan. In fact, he made Gingrich appear to be petty and turned the "unAmerican" smears back on him. This is no mean feat to accomplish without appearing partisan and biased yourself, especially to a Hannity audience.

To at once be partisan -- standing up for democrats of all stripes, defusing GOP smears, attacking the opposing side's messenger and talking points -- and to also come across as nonpartisan and fair-minded to a hostile audience. That's a skill I wish more Democrats had, and Clark's guts to go into enemy territory and not back down.

why not get all the dems together, like reid, kerry, levin, polosi, hoyer, clinton, feingold, and have a news conference and speak TRUTH TO POWER and tell the american people that the democrats may have DIFFERENT plans about what would best work for the u s and our troops in Iraq, but at least we are putting forth a change of course and a new direction and we are united in this effort. Let the motto be as clinton said, at least we are not like the republicans that HEAR NO EVIL, SEE NO EVIL, SPEAK NO EVIL....
Folks we have got to show a united front because unless we do folks like cnn and fox will keep telling the american people the democrats are disorganized, etc etc....damnit this is way to important an election to be a cuddly bear, IT'S TIME THE DEMOCRATS BECAME A GRIZZLEY....

37. You've got that Right!
IT'S TIME THE DEMOCRATS BECAME A GRIZZLEY....

Otherwise, in every upcoming election, they will be smeared....as a whole, whenever possible......if one would notice!

My only wish is that once the voters see how Wes Clark handles himself, they will understand that it takes that kind of a voice to get us back where we need to be.

We don't need no manby wamby "I, I, I" voice.....
We don't need to put out front those who appear weak in their Tone...
We don't need those who would agree with Republicans that Democrats are this and that in order to elevate themselves....
And most of all, we don't need Democrats who believe that compromise means giving the Republicans what they want.

Wes Clark knows War! And He knows more than anyother, apparently how to fight and win wars. He also knows that what the Republicans are doing is waging a war against our democracy, and he ain't going for that, nor is he going for the Okey Doke!

38. I agree
It's just easy schmeeze co-dependency recovery. Identify their bad behavior, their failed collision course. Insist that there be a real plan to fix it. Lay out our plans to fix it, beginning with transition to Iraqi governance and troop redeployment, as was agreed to by these same Republicans in Dec 2005. Set tentative dates for goals to be met. It's not rocket science and it doesn't even take a pair to do it, let alone a big pair.

There's only one reason for there to be the appearance of serious division, and that's presidential politics. And one only need to look at who wrote about this supposed division this morning to figure out which presidential candidate that is. See Paul Begala. Again.

the Dems did try bringing everybody together for a press conference to show a united front with the Real Security Plan rollout...And Bush scheduled his own hastily arranged speech or press conference or whatever it was where he lingered and lingered, even though he had nothing to say, until he was sure the Dems' event was over....So where do you think the press went?

Of course, a week was probably not out after the conference before a bunch of Dems were out there hawking their own plans....So much for the united front....

Get a bunch od Democratic Party heavy-hitters (no mealy-mouths!) and go out there and tell the American electorate the truth about what the Republicans are doing and have done to this country. They could travel from city to city!

Tell them about no minimum wage.

Tell them about NSA spying.

Tell them about Halliburton stock up 600% under Bush.

Tell them about no rebuild on NOLA a year after Katrina.

Tell them what a deficit in the trillions menas to them and their grandchildren.

Tell them everything... The absolute truth!

And, tell them the truth about what "cut and run" really means.

The Republicans want a Summer of Terra.... well, lets give them a Summer of what scares them most -- THE TRUTH!

And it would be a ticket that would drive those who think the ONLY actions by which you can judge a leader are political votes they've cast nuts. :eyes:

But I love those two guys...

Another dream ticket for me would be Wes and George McGovern....but I would guess George might be a little old for the part at this point....I love him though, we know they get along and, after reading Samantha Powers' book, "A Problem from Hell", I realized how much alike they think. They are truly two good men. :)
