Ned Lamont's Newsletter Was Shocking Today
I don't live in Connecticut but I sent Lamont a small donation last month. So, now I receive his email newsletter. It looks like Joe Lieberman is using some very scary code language against Lamont and his supporters. Here's the first paragraph.

"Senator Lieberman and his supporters are cracking under the pressure of a close primary, becoming angry and unhinged. Instead of talking about the issues, they are attacking you personally ... yes, you. Senator Lieberman himself said Ned's supporters were on a "jihad" against him. High-profile Lieberman backers have called you "radicals" seeking to "terrorize the senator throughout the summer." The specific choice of words is calculating and no mistake. It's the typical George Bush/Karl Rove tactic peddled by Republican smear merchants like Ann Coulter and Sean Hannity (who have both endorsed Senator Lieberman)."

Jeez! I just happen to think that Lamont's views are closer to my own liberal outlook. That's hardly "jihadist".

1. Joe-NOmentum is playing the race card, and he knows it... shame on him.
He has lost all sense of decency. When ya can't beat them on ideas, pull out that ugly card and wave it around.

7. Equating us with jihadists is splitting people along religious lines
That's how I read it. I voted for the Gore/Lieberman ticket back in 2000. I'm sure many from Connecticut did, too.

Seems to me that Joe can't defend his positions which shows how weak they are. Perhaps his allegiance to Israel makes him stick with wanting us to have a strong presence in the Middle East. I can even understand that although I don't support it. And I deeply resent his calling folks like me "jihadists". What's also galling is that it appears he has close ties enough with Bush/Rove that he may be getting campaign advice from Rove.

Perhaps it's time for me to put pen in hand and send a letter to the editor at one of the Connecticut papers. That would also help me get it off my chest.

9. It sure as heck isn't the way to win friends, or influence people!
DO write that letter. Then put it aside for a day, reread it, strip all the angry emotion out of it, and send it off. The old "profound sense of sadness and regret" that the dipstick has lost his way will play very well in this instance!!!

11. Thanks for the advice
I'm taking it. H2O Man is also suggesting we write simple four line ltte's. Keeping it simple and clear without exaggeration is good advice. Thanks again! It's most appreciated.

16. That would be great
You could try the New Haven Register. One caveat: it may provoke a response on the theme of "outsiders" involving themselves in our CT politics. I am personally proud that we have such an outstanding candidate in NEd Lamont and as a CT resident deeply grateful to you and others out of state who are helping us out here.

8. Lieberman's melting down, sounds like.
Lamont's pierced his gentlemanly facade and the lurking demagogue has been unleashed.

Good.

What's happening on the GOP side? Are they fielding their own candidate ? If so, will it be a viable candidate or just a no-name sacrifical lamb?

10. I just got this email from MoveOn.....

Pop quiz: Who was the first senator to speak against the Democrats and their exit plan in last week's big Senate debate on Iraq? If you guessed Joe Lieberman, you're right.

Every time leaders like Russ Feingold stand up and fight, Joe Lieberman undermines them with Republican talking points. It's infuriating.

That's why we're endorsing Ned Lamont, the businessman who's running neck-and-neck with Lieberman. There's a note from him to you below. Can you chip in just $20 to help Lamont and other candidates before the deadline?

https://political.moveon.org/give/iraq.html?id=8128-5865584-MzuX7RkYcPQBolOSv33oFg&t=2

MoveOn members voted to endorse Lamont recently but he faces a critical deadline. Candidates will report their campaign finances to the Federal Election Commission June 30th. They need to show they've got support. Can you help?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear MoveOn members,

I am running for U.S. Senate because I believe it is time Democrats stood up and fought for Democratic values. Too often what you hear out of Joe Lieberman is the same thing you hear from George W. Bush.

Just last week Joe voted to stick with the Bush plan for Iraq—opposing other Democrats in the Senate.

I am writing to ask you to support my campaign and other Democrats working to hold George W. Bush's friends accountable. I've got only six weeks left in my race, can I count on you?

https://political.moveon.org/give/iraq.html?id=8128-5865584-MzuX7RkYcPQBolOSv33oFg&t=3

As I've campaigned across Connecticut I hear concerns from some saying, "Ned, don't jeopardize a safe seat."

I tell them, "Connecticut is a progressive state. You're not losing a senator, you're gaining a Democrat."

They tell me, "Ned, don't rock the boat."

And I tell them, "It's high time we rock the boat."

We are running for the heart and soul of the Democratic Party; we're showing the country that we can win as proud Democrats.

I am also asking you to support two other Democrats. One is an Iraq veteran running for Congress. The other is right here in Connecticut. Can I count you in?

https://political.moveon.org/give/iraq.html?id=8128-5865584-MzuX7RkYcPQBolOSv33oFg&t=4

You may be wondering who I am. I started my own successful business from scratch that competes with big cable companies. I am a husband and proud father. I am a progressive and a Democrat.

Three years ago politicians with years of political experience rushed our troops off to war; they told us the war would be easy; we'd be greeted as liberators.

Now three years later, America is no safer, Israel is no safer, the Middle East is even less stable, and we have 130,000 valiant troops stuck in the middle of a violent civil war in the heart of Iraq.

Those who got us into this mess should be held accountable.

In Washington they give you a medal; in the business world they say: "You're fired."

I say it is time for the Iraqis to take control of their own destiny and we're just getting in the way.

The $250 million a day we are spending in Iraq is better spent on pre-school and health care, public transit and veterans benefits.

I would have led the opposition to the nomination of Judge Alito.

I believe that President George Bush's illegal wiretaps and his reckless fiscal and environmental policies are weakening America and leaving too many hardworking citizens behind.

I doubt that anybody will call me "George Bush's favorite Democrat."

I am not afraid of a challenge. I am ready to challenge business as usual, I am ready to fight for real Democratic values and I will tell the Bush administration to put their haughty arrogance in their back pocket and deal with the rest of the world with respect.

I need your support. Joe Lieberman has a well-funded campaign backed by the establishment Democrats in Washington and Connecticut.

https://political.moveon.org/give/iraq.html?id=8128-5865584-MzuX7RkYcPQBolOSv33oFg&t=5

Thank you for your support.

20. If Ned wins it will be political history.
It will be a moment when national Democrats wake up and realize that the people don't want them to be Republicans, and that moving too far to the right will cost them in the next election. It will also send a message that national support from the net-roots does count for something. It would be a huge victory for every progressive Democrat in America.

17. What makes this especially interesting...
Is that even before the Lieberman campaign started branding critics "terrorists," we had a Lieberman fan here in GD who characterized them the same way. Oh, I wish I could remember his username. I'd like to ask him outright if he's one of their trolls.

23. Senator Lieberman called the Bush Adm a bunch of crooks
While making a speech in SC during 2000 election Senator Lieberman said that the Bush administration was made up of the biggest bunch of crooks he had ever seen. I agree and now he has joined them. He makes my skin crawl.

24. I just sent Ned Lamont 50 dollars,
and I don't even live in CT.

I'm just tired of the undercover Republicans, the wimps, the Bush supporters, and the appeasers currently holding office in the Democratic party.

They do not deserve the privelege of holding Democratic seats.

So I put my money where my mouth is, today.
