Have the Edwards staffers taken pay cuts?
Edited on Wed Feb-04-04 06:25 PM by jenk
news just broke about Clark's money troubles, though it doesn't seem desperation yet. He is in a little bit of hot water

just curious about Edwards, but notice that he is the only candidate that doesn't desperately beg for money on his website with bats or trains with a set goal amount. I'm thinking that he has a lot more money than he lets on.

1. Well, with a personal net worth perhaps in the hundreds of millions....
he's certainly not short of the next dollar.

34. A pointer to the info was just posted a few days ago.
It came from FEC(?), and claimed his net worth was (iirc) somewhere in the range 100M to 900M.

Edited on Wed Feb-04-04 08:15 PM by sgr2
I love it when they're wrong. Happens a lot these days. BTW, I like Kucinich.

(snip)
Contribs/loans from the Candidate $0

NOTE: These figures only include the 4th quarter of 03, and do not include any of his income from January 1st till today.

35. I really didn't say (or imply, I don't think) that he has.
All I tried to convey is that he's apparently a stunningly wealthy man, and therefore has no reason to worry about money.

2. Now, that makes me wonder, jenk.
Do you suppose that Edwards is receiving assured funding from the DNC and the rest of the Dem establishment?? Could he be the Annointed VP candidate?? Or maybe the Annointed ONE??? I am absolutely convinced that he has been promised something, and better than AG.

And in Iowa (or NH?) he did make an off the cuff remark that "We aren't concerned about money!". :o

...and he's not allowed to tap into his personal fortune under campaign finance laws.

15. Answer - Kerry and Dean opted out of public financing.
Kerry and Dean opted out.

I think this is why self financing is legal for Kerry but not Edwards.

Clark donors contribute less than Kerry donors and Edwards donors. Follow the money as they say.

12. The lawyers are maxed out...
...they gave their $2k and can't give any more.

I'm pretty sure the Edwards campaign could use cash just like all the other ones. If not, there would have been much more action in Oklahoma and he'd probably be in Michigan right now.

38. One can believe that, or one can check a credible source
Actually, Edwards' campaign is 50% funded by "Lawyers and Lobbyists." Over $7,000,000.00 actually.

40. When Edwards was on Letterman the other night
he was in NY area to meet with big money people.

He had a meeting/fundraiser? in NYC, & another in New Jersey.

Nothing wrong with this; my point: they are all scrambling for money.

With Kerry as frontrunner, it gets harder to raise money for competitors.

24.  fund-raising dip 3rd Q - it happens
"Edwards, a former trial lawyer, continued to rely on the legal profession for much of his support. About 45 percent of his third-quarter donations came from members of the profession or people living at the same address, according to an analysis of donations of $200 or more by Dwight L. Morris & Associates, a group that tracks campaign finances.Edwards' financial numbers were boosted by a $460,609 transfer from his Senate campaign on Sept. 30, the cutoff for reporting. Without that, he raised $2.1 million -- significantly less than the $3.5 million retired Gen. Wesley Clark raised in two weeks after starting his campaign in mid-September, and only slightly higher than Kucinich's $1.7 million."

25. Do you mean when Edwards was receiving NO coverage in the media
and was given NO chance to win anything?

Yes, I remember those times well, and I'm sure it was not easy for him to raise $.

Check out the polls--the people who don't know who he is outnumber the unfavorables in most of them.

I'd say he's still facing an uphill battle.

37. In my e-mail from the Clark campaign:
"Yesterday, the Little Rock staff demonstrated our commitment to Wes Clark's campaign by voting to forgo pay for the critical week ahead and dedicating the resources to Tennessee and Virginia. We didn't have to do this -- we wanted to do this.

Together, we are sending a message -- that each of us is standing with Wes Clark and his vision for a better America. We're putting it all on the line, and we are asking you to stand with us."

39. That really motivated me to donate.
The campaign has been wise with their money. I think many people work for Wes Clark for free! In Indiana we are getting him on the ballot through freezing our buts off and no insider help from the Dem party. Many other candidates are having their signatures PAID for or are getting help from the powers that be. Actually, I am very proud that the campaign did not have to buy one single signature in Indiana! He can use that money for more bumper stickers! General Clark inspires people. Unfortunately it is spun to insinuate that he is hurting financially. Go Clark!
