Hotline says NV is the caucus, SC is the primary. DNC committee vote.
http://hotlineblog.nationaljournal.com/archives/2006/07/live_from_the_d_2.html

Here's the Dem '08 calendar as it stands now:

"Iowa's caucus could be held on Monday, January 14th or Monday, January 21st. If the caucuses are held the 14th, Nevada caucuses on 1/19, New Hampshire holds its primary on 1/22 and South Carolina primaries on 1/29. The window for other states to hold their primaries would open 2/5.

If Iowa waits until the 21st, Nevada would meet on 1/26. New Hampshire would vote 1/29, while South Carolina would vote on Groundhog Day, 2/2. The window would still open 2/5.

Much of the calendar is already set, thanks to laws in various states. Those dates are being made available by the DNC later today."

Hotline analysis of NV vote:
http://hotlineblog.nationaljournal.com/archives/2006/07/_analysis_reid.html

"Members of the rules and bylaws committee, as well as other Democratic sources, attribute Nevada's win to two factors:

1. Organized labor, which overlooked their own internal breach to support a service-union heavy state like Nevada. Labor officials made a persuasive argument behind the scenes that a labor-infused early caucus would excite labor rank-and-file around the country, would demonstrate the party's continuing respect for labor's foot soldiers, and help to more broadly vet the potential frontrunner. The three teachers union reps on the committee, led by Dean ally Tina Flournoy, were instrumental in focusing labor's energies on Nevada.

2. Harry Reid, the minority leader. Not only did he heavily lobby on behalf of his state, he's gone out of way to publicly and privately embrace DNC chairman Howard Dean. The two met recently to discuss Dean's 50 State Strategy and '06, and while Reid wishes that Dean would spend a little more on Senate seats directly, he told Dean that he was an enthusiastic supporter of the project in general and would do whatever he could to help. The vote today reflects the respect that members of the RBC have for Reid as the leader of the Democratic Party, as well as their gratitude that he, almost alone among Democratic leaders, is an ally of Dean's party-building orientation. Also: Reid's chief of staff, Susan McCue, has calcified her position as perhaps the single most powerful Democratic staffer in the entire party.

Arizona's emergence as a late favorite can be attributed to the hard work of its governor, Janet Napolitano, and the respect she commands within the Democratic Party. As late as Thursday, Arizona was considered the odds-on favorite, barring a last minute swing in opinion to Nevada.

South Carolina's inclusion was almost pre-destined. It held successful contests before and the South Carolinians on the committee, including Don Fowler, Carol Khare Fowler and Rep. James Clyburn, became kingmakers."

2. Why does this Party still have "King-Makers" anyway?????

Having had a bit of experience with Mr. Fowler in the past, I am having a hard time wrapping my head around his being dubbed a "king-maker". Jeezuss, this Party has GOT to rid themselves of these hacks once and for all!

Gawd.... Donnie Fowler.

6. Poster pulls the Hotline comments together for easier reading.
I am reserving any comments on this except that Florida simply does not get a voice in the primaries at all. What is it.. 26 electoral votes now? But it will still be over before it gets to us.

The new calendar looks like this:

Iowa's caucus will be held on Monday, January 14th, which means Nevada caucuses on 1/19, New Hampshire holds its primary on 1/22 and South Carolina primaries on 1/29. The window for other states to hold their primaries would open 2/5.

And finally a picture of Dean at DemFest in San Diego. Hardly any posted yet.
