Dick Morris: ‘Civil War Is Progress’ In Iraq

http://thinkprogress.org/2006/07/25/dick-morris-iraq-civil-war/

On March 16, conservative pundit Dick Morris told Sean Hannity things were going better than people thought in Iraq, arguing “what is going on is not a civil war.”

Now, Morris believes that there is civil war in Iraq but argues that it’s a good thing. Appearing on the O’Reilly Factor last night, Morris said “a civil war is progress, because it means it’s no longer a war against us.” Watch it:

Transcript:

O’REILLY: It also knocked Iraq off the front page.

MORRIS: Yeah, well, that’s true. But you know in Iraq, the casualties are dropping, the U.S. casualties are dropping.

O’REILLY: U.S. casualties, right. Civilians - because it’s now a civil war. After Zarqawi was killed, the insurgency fell down.

MORRIS: What we don’t understand is in Iraq, a civil war is progress, because it means it’s no longer a war against us.

O’REILLY: I don’t know, it’s such a mess in there.

3. GOP's new slogan: It's all good
Doesn't matter if democracy takes root in Iraq or not. It's all good.

Doesn't matter if civil war breaks out. It's all good.

Doesn't matter if we apprehend bin Laden or not. It's all good.

Doesn't matter if the president's approval numbers go up or plummet precipitously. It's all good.

Doesn't matter if we run up massive federal deficits. It's all good.

Doesn't matter if more Americans slip below the poverty line. It's all good.

Doesn't matter if people die because they don't have health insurance. It's all good.

Doesn't matter if there are more pollutants in the air and water. It's all good.

Doesn't matter if Israel goes mad. It's all good.

The question is, good for whom? Republicans certainly seem sanguine about all the death and misery that have attended their policies. But I guess when your stocks keep going up and your companies keep recording record profits . . .

It's all good.
