Feinstein, Ben Nelson, Bill Nelson, Clinton, Webb, Casey |
|
Use these names whenever someone says the Democratic Party can't handle moderates or dissenters. There wasn't (or hasn't been) any serious opposition organized against the first four (I realize that Tasini is running against Clinton, but his campaign has not gotten the push that Lamont's has). And Webb and Casey have gotten a lot of support from even the most liberal Democrats. IMO the organized opposition to Lieberman has less to do with the war than it is The War plus his stance on: 1 Hospitals giving out the morning after pill; 2. Universal health care; 3. His refusal to filibuster Alito; 4. The 'Kiss of Death from scrubbie; 5. His willingness to publicly criticize his colleagues in the Senate' <last time I checked none of the four sitting senators I mentioned have been kissed or have gone public with disagreements>, 6. His lovefest interviews with sean insanity; 7. He's supported by coulter, malkin, insanity, etc; 8. That he seems to have no problem supporting scrubbie, after which the msm uses the video to say 'Democrats divided' or 'The Democratic Party in Disarray'; 9. His standing ovation he gave to scrubbieand the stupid smirk on his face as he looked around his fellow Democrats at the SOTU speech; 10 Right after he says, "I'm a loyal Democrat" he says "Either way I'll be on the ballot come November." <With that kind of loyalty who needs disloyal people?>
To those who point to Lieberman's record I will also point out: Lieberman is not a political novice. He knows that his actions and comments will be used by the press and by the pukes against the Dems every chance they get. He seems to not care. His actions, in my opinion, weaken the Party and embolden the pukes.

2. Yup, that's why became a Lamont fan. |

Nelson has good approval ratings from NE, and more importantly from DEMOCRATS in NE. Lieberman is going to get the boot because he is out of touch with CT as a whole, and inparticular CT Dems.

The beef is with Lieberman the man. I see it as him having tripped over his outsized ego, which has been elevated since Gore asked him to play ball in 2000.
A comparison with, say, Ben Nelson is pretty revealing. Ben's votes pretty much make me ill, but - and this is a huge 'but' - he is good at repesenting the wishes and views of his DEMOCRATIC constituents. And he knows to keep his pie hole shut on the 'gotcha' shows. Lieberman is the antithesis of that on all counts.
Webb's my guy and I'm a damned lefty liberal. He's right for his state and he's a no shit kinda guy. I like that.
So yeah ... while the war issue is a part of Lieberman's problem, that's far from the whole story.
