LAT: Bush Baggage Could Cost Lieberman Primary |
|
...But Lieberman is also being battered by a widespread belief among critics that his long-standing commitment to working with Republicans has become counterproductive at a time when President Bush and the GOP congressional majority pursue an aggressive conservative agenda.
"I want a senator who's out there challenging them … instead of working with them on their crazy policies," said Cheryl Curtiss, a West Hartford School District employee, as she waited for Lamont at a rally Saturday night. ... Clinton traveled to Connecticut last week to appear with the senator and endorse him. By Friday, Lieberman's campaign had produced a button showing Clinton with his arm around the senator at the rally — an intended antidote for the button Lamont supporters have distributed for months showing Bush embracing Lieberman after the president's 2005 State of the Union Address.
The Lamont button reads "The Kiss"; Lieberman's camp calls its button "The Hug." http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-lieberman1aug01,0,445148.story?coll=la-headlines-politics

1. Clinton ain't going to bail Holy Joe out |
|
Personally, I think he'll win the general election because Republicans will vote for him. The GOP in Conn. is a useless appendage, on the whole, so the GOP candidate won't even be a factor. But it will, one hopes, humble the guy. We will get nowhere cooperating at all with these fascists.

5. The last poll had Lieberman smack dab even with Lamont *in the general*. |
|
Edited on Tue Aug-01-06 09:17 AM by w4rma
The Repug had 10% of the vote. Huge momentum in Lamont's favor. Lieberman would probably lose the general election if he ran right now, but instead Lamont has 3 months of momentum and Lieberman has 3 months of sticking his foot in his mouth.

17. If Lieberman is re-elected, it won't humble him at all. |
|
If anything, it'll make him even *more* self-righteous and belligerent.
Holy Joe would spend a fourth term in the senate making damn good and sure that those who opposed him are punished severely. Count on it.

11. Not even for THAT! I wouldn't want Lieberman to have the VP |
|
even if it did mean that Gore would be Prez because I think Lieberman would work against Democratic principles even more if told to do so by the Lobby.

remember. The vice-president HAS NO POWER of his own, except to preside over the Senate. cheney is the most powerful vp we've ever had only because Bush wants him to be.
Call it kicking him upstairs.:)

14. That USED to be the case. Nowadays power of the Presidency |
|
and the Vice Presidency is under the control of the vast rw conspiracy that Hillary talked about some years ago. This is who controls the U.S. government, both parties, the congress, elections, foreign and domestic policy. You might want to read this paper which describes that power in more detail.

15. Ok, but how is that relevant? |
|
If Gore had been president, neither the presidency nor the vice-presidency would be under the contro of the vast rw conspiracy.

16. Methinks you may have a lot to learn...but, hey...I would have liked |
|
to have had Gore win also, but no way did I want Lieberman on that ticket. I don't like him now, didn't like him then and never trusted him. So, hey...believe what you wish...:)

18. Maybe I do have a lot to learn, |
|
still, if you won't explain it, how will I do so?
Am I correct in thinking that you think Gore would be controlled by the RW?
Are you suggesting that a president who did not like the policy preferences of his vp coould not find a way to mariginalize him?
I'm not quite sure what it is that you think I should learn, but I'm certainly willing to listen:)

19. OK...but first, let me say that I am not trying to do the "teaching" |
|
here. I am expressing an opinion.
I just want to call your attention to the way EVERYONE in our government, both parties, seems to be marching in lockstep. They are so much alike that you cannot slip a dime between Democratic and Republican representatives, even the most liberal among them? They have all sold out to that rw cabal that Hillary brought to our attention nearly ten years ago. Most of their campaign money, their plans for jobs for their children and for themselves after leaving office are dependent on that "vast rw cabal." If they have silenced the mouths of our most active legislators, if they have purchased former Pres. Clinton...what do you think they would have done to Gore? He is a great man, but I doubt that he would try to stand alone against them. I think that is why he doesn't choose to run again. He can say a bit more if he is not dependent on that group.
What I am saying is that the America that we are used to doesn't exist anymore. It died on 911 when members of our goverment did not demand an immediate investigation of the tragedy. It happened when both elections were stolen and our party did not fill the streets and airwaves with outrage. We all watched it happen and most people don't want to admit it yet...but America does not belong to the American citizens any longer because their legislators have sold out. There is no oversight. Notice how public opinion is shaped to fit a certain viewpoint no matter how obvious it may be that we are being lied to.
So, yes, I think Gore wuld have been controlled by this rw cabal. Yes, I am suggesting that a president who did not like the policy preferences of his vp could not find a way to marginalize him if the rw cabal did not WANT him to be marginalized. (Remember Kennedy?)
On second thought, I am wrong for suggesting that you have a lot to learn. Perhaps it is I who have not learned to "fall in" with the crowd, continue to live my comfortable life and watch the reality show where others suffer on my tv and no one demands that the killing be stopped. I think it is I who have a lot to learn.

about the corporate whores! OK. I can buy that.
However, I do not consider the corporate whores to be RW. Right-wingery is an ideology, same as left-wingery. The corporate whores don't care which party is in power. They will grease the wheels equally. I do agree that we have lost, if not America, then a large part of the political process to the corporate whores.
But it didn't start with 9/11, or the 2000 election. It started olong before that. Remember Ike and the "military/industrial" shit?
I suspect it started about 2 weeks after the Consittution was ratifed, if not before.
But I also think you are wrong. Unless the President gave the vp something to do, he has no power in the executive branch, and damn little in the legislative. This is a fact. However, there are other officials the corporate whores can manipulate,

Bill will get in bed with anything.
But I don't think Ma Bush will be upset about her adopted son's infidelity this time around. After all, Holy Joe has been very useful to Dubya and the Bush Crime Family.
