Do you have hope politicians will fix this mess ?
Edited on Wed Aug-16-06 01:04 AM by blues90
Personally I just don't and not because I don't vote or think there may be some good new comers out there , there are a few who may be real . I vote democrat , always have .

I have a big problem with the senate and the house . If they want to play games and vote for issues that only harm the democrats who supported them then they need to step back and think then step forward and begin being honest . I can't say what motivates them , if it's fear or profit or hidden wrong doing , but there is definetly something wrong .

If you just consider Katrina and the occupation in Iraq , the job situation in this country and the long winded never ending carrot called healthcare for all then they have certainly dropped the ball .

It may be fine and dandy for them to sit in their nice homes and fly around the country however the dying middle class and the poor certainly are not allowed the pleasure to be selective and waste time .

Ted Kennedy has tried to get the min wage increased , Barbra Boxer has tried at least to stop condi from going further and Feingold and Conyers have put in effort to stall the BCF but this is where it seems to end .

My wish is that all the lame lax dems and certainly all the repugs loose their seats forever for what they have not done to support the honest american worker and what they have done to allow us to go further into this hell without so much as a peep .

it is time for americans to no longer look at politicans as some sort of a star or celebrity figure putting them high on the list of fame and wonder and awe . After all they are working for us and were put there to do a job like it or not .

We are never going to have true representation as long as money makes the win , never . Just for the fact we are told one has 25 million to run a campaign is all the more reason not to vote for them on principal alone . There has been talk for many years on campaign funding and limits and as you see not one dman thing has changed , the simple reason for this is the people continue to allow it by voting for the money holder . If anyone expects the politicians to change this then you are either a fool or in for a long wait for a train that will never arrive .

It is a well known fact that any boss or owner of a large company never pays credit where credit is due , and it is no different for politicians .

You hear time and time again that this country was built on the backs of the people , the people are the one who find the inventions and build the products and pay the taxes , they build the roads and the planes and the pots and pans and grow the crops that all of us need to survive .

Yet we sit here and are told endlessly , wait for the elections , this will save you , well this is bullshit , complete and utter bullshit .

Did we not put our faith in politicians and have found ourselves right here , right in this hell ? Do we not sit and wonder each and every time when a vote is cast in the house or senate only to end up with our worst imagination being realized ?

This will go on and on as long as we allow it . We hear talk of how they are going to bring the jobs back , really , just how do they propose to pull this off , what by adding taxes , really , how ? is the tax going to force a company to close their plants over seas and bring them back home , how will they deal with the environmental laws , you know the ones bush tossed into the trash , how will they make it profitable to run a manufacturing co under strict and necessary pollution laws . How will they create new jobs and retrain long term workers to do these jobs if they do in fact create them or are the longterm older workers just out of luck sitting on hope and promise that will never materialize ?

I try to remain realistic but I reach a dead end when I listen to all the grand promise made and yet see nothing but a continued downhill slide .

My thoughts are these , if we were in their best interests as we have heard for decades , we would not be in this situation today , instead we would have most of the promise realized by now and be well on the way to a peaceful nation with world recognition for leading the way . We are so very far off course , the begining of this road has not even been cleared of rock and earth , it is not even imagined or charted yet . All we have is the carrot , rotted and hung .

1. You can't leave it to the politicians themselves.
Even if we elect some half-decent ones, we will need to be on them like white on rice. We will need to organize and protest, mobilize, mobilize, and mobilize.

We can never again say, as too many of us(including myself at times)did in the Nineties, "Oh well, we've got a Democratic president. Our work is done".

2. I almost never vote for the incumbent..
last time I only voted for incumbents who had no opponent. Even then I could say I voted for them, and they should at least listen to my concerns.

And voting against the incumbent usually leaves me voting for a Democrat. Is that the case with you?

4. I'm with you, never leave them in long enough to do too much
damage or get too powerful.

3. Absolutely none whatsoever.
In a way I can't blame them. After all, every time one of them commits the latest outrage and is then re-elected, they must be saying to themselves, "just how stupid are these people?", no matter how appalling or egregious my/their behavior, there is no price to be paid. So, why not take the job/honorarium/donation/speaker fee? Why not sell my vote? It's free money, no (political) strings attached.

5. To be frank with you I think most people do not think like that
Most do not give these people in DC a thought. It is the nuts like us that are really into it. I can always be sure to hear as it gets near an election---they are all crooks---one is as bad as the other---so I am guessing most people do not care. When it gets to something like they have to send a kid to war, and they do not now, they start thinking about it, gas cost them, so they think about it, town tax is due so it runs through their minds. I do not think schools even teach gov. any more. I find it hard to met people that know a thing about our gov. I still recall what a hard class that was and I had to do it. It seems to be a sub-subject now. I always voted but I recall my mother telling me that she could not vote when she was born. That is women could not. Of my own children I had to shame some into voting, some did any how and one will not. We may think some one in DC can do something but I bet half the people in US do not.
