The 'Liebrman-as-SecDef' theory .... with a twist.
The current theory by this name holds that Lieberman wins over Lamont and that other guy (yeah, I know its Schlesinger .... I'm acknowledging him as much as his own party does), Commander Bunnypantz names him SecDef and Jodi Rell (R-I wonder who *she's* endorsing?) names a Repub - probably Shays - to replace him.

Voila, free Senate seat for the Rs.

But what if Lieberman loses? Is he still SecDef material?

1. Shays is NOT guarenteed a win for the Senate by a long shot.

3. Shays is running for the House
The Senate - if he gets it - is what I postulate if Rell gets to make the call.

5. I know that. But still, Shays will have to run against Lamont.
Lamont can and will attack Shays for his appeasement of *!

2. Probably, b/c then's he's a "political martyr"...
... and the Repubs would be all too happy to use him cynically and to give bipartisan "cover" to their Iraq adventure.

4. My guess is that in such a scenario his nomination would be filibustered
He's in enough of the doghouse already with the Democrats, and if the Lieberman camp tried to pull that off it would be the final straw to set off a Senate filibuster.

8. He is Sect. of Defense material still
I think the point of the Middle East wars are not to bring liberty and democracy. It is for something else. But in order to get that something else, this administration needs a war, these neo-cons need to keep things stirred up, they need to have something to point at to tell us we need to be afraid of it.

Here is where Joe Lieberman comes in: A Jewish Sect. of Defense running multiple conflicts in the Middle East against mostly Islamic people. The unwaivering support of the US for Israel.

Maybe it is just me, maybe the tin foil hat needs to be re-foiled, but the appearance of that. I think that would keep it stirred and give the neo-cons the boogie man they need.

9. No way he would accept Sec Def job.
If he ends up back in the senate (which I hope won't happen) there isn't a chance in hell that he would give it up for a short term position in a lame duck administration.
If he loses, once again why risk any political future in a lame duck admin. plus I don't see his ego allowing it.

ON THE OTHER HAND, if he felt confident that they can steal the election again and keep the neocons in power then I could see him accepting the position.

Soooooo.......if he did become sec def then rest assure that they will steal the next election.

10. Only if Lieberman wins "as a Dem" will he get the SecDef job
because, if he loses, he will be of no value to the Republicans. He is only valuable if he has to vacate the spot due to the appointment.

People should ask him at each and every appearance ... "Have you been offered the Sec. of Defense position in the Bush administration?"

Get him on record ...
