Chris Hitch implied that since an Iraqi allegedly mixed |
|
chemicals for the 1993 World Trade Center bombing that Iraq qas mixed up in the attack on 9/11...
Using that logic, shouldn't we have then bombed Saudi Arabia dn not Afganistan since most of the "martyrs" came from the desert kingdom....
Hitch has no credibility and should be given none....

1. I wouldn't compare Iraq to Afghanistan. |
|
Afghanistan was harboring Al-Qaeda. Iraq was as involved in 9/11 as Bolivia.

12. He seemed to actually be sober... but was still WRONG |
|
The Iraqi that he was talking about was literally a stooge. A simpleton whom the bombers befriended because he was a. an arab man who b. lived with his grandmother in the same building and could c. drive a car and d. help lift things.
Saddam try to trade him for leniency and time extensions pretty much anything you could think of and he was repeatedly turned down. Everyone knew that the guy was useless to them. He was a stooge.
For a guy who is supposed to be so intelligent Hitchens looked like a fool mentioning the guy at all but maybe he was having a little joke to himself or something.

13. So this is about Christopher Hitchens? |
|
Why is it necessary to invent names for people? Shit, that's confusing.
I don't like Hitchen's opinions, but he knows a helluva lot and must be listened to.

17. Not so. It's unfortunate you think so. |
|
I listened to a debate (about 90 minutes to 2 hours) on Iraq/WMD/al Qaeda between Hitchens with Scott Ritter. They spent the first two thirds of the discussion emphatically agreeing with each before they finally found some topics where they disagree. Needless to say, I agreed with Ritter, but the common ground was stunning.
So, if you are under the impression that Hitchens is an ignorant fool, you also part ways with Ritter and the rest of UNSCOM.

on the far right/flaming fringe to be "informed" of their positions on issues. There are summaries of that shit available everywhere. And that guy has jumped the damn shark a LONG time ago. He's in Coulter territory, and has been for awhile.
I'd much rather spend my time constructively, rather than closely attend to the unimaginative ramblings of that hubris-laden, drunken shitheel.
But hey, you are quite welcome to pollute your mind and waste your time--perhaps you might keep us posted in the completely unlikely event that the bozo says anything that varies from the usual vomit he pipes out continuously!

14. Hitchens is an illusionist. |
|
He's just doing his schtick to make ends meet. I loved the way he equated Clinton's triangulation with Bush's divide-and-conquer on Bill Maher. Hitchens sits there with that supercilious "read it and weep" look on his face while saying things that are tangentially plausible, yet ridiculous. It stupefies people, because they are left with either accepting what he says or looking up and disputing his facts.
I think people are more and more onto his game, though. He's mainly just commercial, like Ann Coulter. He's laughing at his customers on the inside.

23. An excellent point, Gulliver, one I noted with irritation as well!! |
|
He loves to do things like equate the local butcher, who has knives and uses them in the course of his work, with an axe murderer, who kills people with a sharp instrument.
And he does it with this wide-eyed look on his face. Often, he spouts total, tangential horseshit, but as you say, enough people aren't apprised of the full facts, so his 'odd factoid pulled from deep within his ass' ends up ruling the day, until someone comes along, much later, to correct the impression.
