Okay,..... So We Win The House,.... Then What?
---- A post from several days ago listed a few of the immediate actions recommended by Russ Feingold, should the democrats actually succeed in wresting control of the House of Representatives away from the republicans. They were pretty good, too,... especially the first one, which called for immediate legislation providing that all voting machines should have an auditable paper trail. That might be my first one, as well.

----And while I admit to not knowing all the terms and implications of the ill-advised congressional vote authorizing the president to use military force with respect to Iraq,.. it seems this vote could be partially modified or rescinded, so as to prevent Bush from expanding the war (on his word alone) into Iran or Syria. At some point, Congress has to re-assert its Constitutional role and responsibility in the decision to go to war,.. particularly when we have not been attacked, and the decision is an "elective" one. This power MUST be taken away from Bush, and the democrats have to be the ones to do it. This must be priority #2. Take that goddamned sword out of Bush's hand.

---- Feingold also didn't mention anything about impeachment proceedings, and perhaps knowingly so. But a democratically-led House MUST initiate investigations into any number of Bush administration activities,... including, but not limited to: - The Intel operations of the hastily-disbanded Office of Special Plans, under PNAC'er Douglas Feith. - The 9-11 Commission Report findings. - The secret Cheney Energy Panel meetings. - The Valerie Plame outing. - The Bush-ENRON California energy rip-off. If impeachment proceedings should arise from these inquiries, then bring 'em on.

---- And I know this will never happen,.. not even under full democratic control beyond 2008,.... but if this government is ever to return to the Constitutional intent of the Founding Fathers, then political activity and campaign financing will have to come to a point of being defined as the exclusive domain of individual citizens. Corporate money and corporate influence must be flushed out of the system,.... and the term "flushed" is used with good reason.

3. Boy are you making one huge assumption!
We will win the House? Says who? Polls that can change by the day?

I wish everyone would stop being so overconfident. That's the worst mistake we can make with 2 months left to go!

4. I think the OP was just asking a hypothetical question.
Considering the polls indicate there is an extremely strong probability of us taking back the House, it's entirely appropriate to ponder what we will do next.

5. I'll Worry About It When.....
I still strongly doubt that THEY are going to let the Democrats take control of anything.

I'm confident that we'll all be here posting on November 8, wondering how it happened again.

THEY have too much at stake to let the honest Dems take control of either house.

All that matters to them is WINNING. It doesn't matter if it's by 1 seat or 1 vote. All they care about is maintaining control, and I'm sure they've got a way figured out to do that.

I'll believe a Dem victory when I see one. I haven't seen one since 1996.

8. Impeach Bush first, then
Let's restore our lost civil liberties. Let's get out of Iraq and get Bin Laden. Let's not do what the republicans did - let's put "We the people" first and not big oil companies.

13. Impeach Bush? You can dream but that is all you are doing.
Bush and the Repukes control all 3 branches of government right now. Right now, Bush could walk into the Senate and pull out a gun and put a bullet into the head of Hillary or Murtha or whoever and no one would be able to stop him. In fact, Fox news would celebrate the next day and the rest of the media would wringe their hands and debate the "issue".

Even with only one branch of government we are not going to get any-damn-where with an impeachment movement. They would control, even if we do win - the courts, most of the media, 2 branches of government completely and what will we have one half of the legislature on a thin margin.

Don't bother going there man it ain't going to happen.

16. As much as I would love to see it
impeachment ain't going to happen. And even if it did
there is no way there would be a large enough majority
in the Senate to convict.

17. And that's okay too
Even if the Senate would not convict, DUHbya deserves to be tried and impeached by the House.

Concentrate on '06, then plan for '08.

Nice to be optimistic, but '06 is the next step on a very long journey.

18. All good proposals
but to pass anything we need to control both the house and
Senate..Winning just the house, all we can do is try to keep
them in check.
