22. I will bet you are correct....
But, I will bet you a nickel they are on the phone as we type trying coerce them to not allow that rant to go on the air.

This call will be very effective if others follow up with more calls or at least open discussion of the possibilities.

I love Keith! He is indeed the modern day Edward R. Murrow, as another poster here has said. It almost makes me wonder how could someone of his caliber have come from ESPN?

11. The ratings say he can...
he's been on a steady upward swing in ratings, especially in the all-important 25-54 demographic. He's still small-time compared to a lot of other shows, but he climbs every week, and I'm sure they know it's becuase of shows like this.

17. I agree with you about KO's ratings,
my question is this. Why doesn't it show cable news programmers that people want to see and hear more journalist like KO?

This has always confused me, i know the powers to be watch the rating like a hawk.

21. Maybe because a lot of programmers are thinking short term...
although his ratings have dropped considerably, Bill O'Reilly still gets WAY more viewers than Olbermann.

I think a lot of programmers are valuing raw numbers over trends

23. The powers at the networks watch the ratings. But...
the powers at the mega-corps that own the networks think of the networks as a tool, not a profit center. For all they care, the networks can be a loss-leader and they're still ahead if the total information propaganda network helps ensure that they can trash and poison the environment, kill and maim employees, rob from consumers, bust unions, ship jobs overseas, receive corporate welfare by the billions, and get tax breaks for the plutocracy. Given all that, a few mill less revenue from TV news show ads isn't even on their radar.

19. I don't think it's ratings alone. I think it's fear.
I seem to remember that Donohue was MSNBC's highest rated show and that didn't save him.

Things have changed since they canned Donohue. They realize now that the 1000-year Neocon Reich isn't going to last 1000 years. I think MSNBC management is reading the political winds and knows that the neocon empire is going to crash, maybe this November. They know how bad they and the rest of CorpMedia have been, they know we call them MSRNC for good reason. They know the day is coming, and Olbermann will be their fig leaf. "See, we weren't all one-sided. We had Olbermann on."

38. They feel a need for only one fig leaf to cover their bias, not two.
I didn't mean to suggest that they've changed in any general way. They're still MSRNC. They allow Keith some leeway so that they can later claim they allowed both sides. But they're clearly not fair or balanced, and they don't feel any need for more than one fig leaf to cover their bias.

peril, probably because they have such low ratings overall. They know they can't afford to piss anybody off who's a loyal, dedicated viewer. We may be just about all they've got. They don't DARE make us unhappy. If they had a bunch of hits, that would be one thing. If they were riding high and could afford to lose one trouble-maker, that'd be one thing. But neither is the case here. And I'll bet the positive reaction to him gets bigger and louder and more ferocious with every one of his howlingly biting commentaries. He's saying what needs to be said (what's needed to be said for years now) and evidently there's a powerful - and clearly unavoidable - roar of approval to back him up.

I even got a chance to plug him here!

26. Well, that's nice. And . . . ?
What will come of it? Nothing.

Not to be a wet blanket, but I can't get excited by a television commentator, no matter how admirable, calling for impeachment.

If I heard those calls coming from significant numbers of members of the House of Representatives, then I'd get excitied.

Levin Reads Details of Bush Lies Into Senate Record

Michigan Democrat Carl Levin took to the Senate floor on Friday and gave what amounted to a primer on the lies of the Bush administration leading to the Iraq war.

"The President's decision to ignore intelligence community assessments prior to the Iraq war and to make repeated public statements that gave the misleading impression that Saddam Hussein's regime was connected to the terrorists who attacked us on 9/11 cost him any credibility he may have had on this issue," said Levin, who then went on to give a laundry list of some of the lies told by Team Bush.

Levin has provided some bullet points that are good ammunition for the next time some Republican sycophant tells you such charges against Bush are purely political, rather than proof positive of what a despicable administration this has been for six years now. He also cites the report issued by the Senate Intelligence Committee on Friday that sheds yet more light on attempts by Bush to mislead Americans on the justification for invading Iraq.

Here's Levin, for the record, on the Senate floor:

"President Bush said Saddam and Al Qaeda were allies--his words. And that:

'You can't distinguish between Al Qaeda and Saddam when you talk about the war on terror.'

"The bipartisan report released today directly contradicts that linkage which the President has consistently made in his effort to build public support for his Iraq policy.

"The bipartisan committee report finds that the prewar intelligence assessments were right when the intelligence community said Saddam and Al Qaeda were independent actors who were far from being natural partners. The report finds that prewar intelligence assessments were right when they expressed consistent doubts that a meeting occurred between 9/11 hijacker Mohamed Atta and a senior Iraqi intelligence official in Prague prior to September 11. Our report finds that prewar intelligence assessments were right when they said there was no credible reporting on Al Qaeda operatives being trained in Iraq. Those were the two principal arguments which were used prior to the war to support the alleged linkage between Al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein.

"The accurate prewar intelligence assessments didn't stop the administration from making many false and misleading statements trying to link Saddam Hussein with Al Qaeda."

but we are going to need much louder and continuing mention of "impeachable offenses" in order to bring this about. Let's start by getting more Democrats elected to Congress.
