Poll question: A DU poll: Would you support Hillary Clinton in 08 primaries? |
|
Just out of curiosity, how are you leaning in the race for the Democratic nomination...
Leave a message to explain your vote...

1. No, but if she won the primaries I'd support her in the general... |
|
...although even that is assuming that her primary opponent(s) included candidate(s) more to my preference. If she ran against (for example) one of the Nelsons I'd probably support her.

4. You need other choices to indicate that we might, depending on candidates. |
|
For instance, I would support her over most candidates, but there are a couple I would probably choose over her. You don't really have a choice for that.
Sad to see so many "Democrats" opposing her. I can't help but wonder if they are the dupes who have bought into the Swiftboating of her as a conservative, or if they are "visitors" with other agendas.

I am a Democrat, not a "Democrat," I am not a "visitor," I am not a "dupe," I'm not "swiftboating" her, and my "agenda" is to elect Democrats who have the same priorities I do. I feel that there are many other potential nominees whose priorities are a closer match for me. Simple as that.
While I voted "ABH" on the poll, that's only because there is no reasonable alternative that doesn't have me "leaning" one way or another. Like you, I would have liked a different choice on the poll:
"No. There are many other better choices, and I support several of them."

you don't realize you are a dupe (no one can, that's the definition of dupe), or you are like me--disagree on some issues, but in general understand that the smears to make her seem conservative are just more of Rove's gimmics. But voting "anyone but Hillary" implies Biden, Lieberman, McCain... everyone else but Hillary. If that's your attitude, I can't believe anything other than that you've bought into the Swiftboating of her. If your attitude is really that she's just another candidate, then you wouldn't say "anybody but Hillary."

42. You make one good point, |
|
about the "ABH." I don't do "anybody but __________" votes at all. I clicked on it because I would choose most Democrats over Hillary, and that choice wasn't on the poll. I lean hard away from Hillary, but that choice wasn't there.

I'm not a democrat but a left leaning libertarian...otherwise I feel the same as you as far as not being a dupe or being swiftboated. I selected ABH simply because I don't think she can win.

7. This election won't be the time to try to elect the first female to the |
|
office of POTUS. I like the idea of a female President, but the public reaction can't be predicted. We can't afford to be hamstrung by adding a sexist handicap to the process (like it or not, they are out there.)
What we need is the most electable candidate we can muster.
Personally, I like Hillary, but she just 'happened' at the wrong time in history. We must win the next presidential election. No ifs, ands, or buts.

---- Most electable in the backwash of the failed Bush administration,.... No point in trying to evade the reality of it,..... If democrats vote democratic,...... even if they REALLY wanted Hilliary,... then Clark will attract more of the swing/independents on the security issue,..... Sen Clinton cannot compete with a 4-star general, and she should focus on doing her job as a NY senator. The job requirements of the presidential nomination,... including the electability factor,... do not have room for unbridled personal ambition.

if she were to gain the nomination, I'd vote for her hands down. She has angered and disappointed me many times, but even though Hillary is more of a Republican than any possible Democratic candidate, she is still better than all of the Republican $#%$&() combined. I'll hack off my own arm before I'll vote Republican, or for a third party candidate, no matter how noble, who has absolutely no chance in hell of beating a Republican. The Republicans must be thrown out of power, because they are killing this country.

12. I checked "ABH", but, inreality.... |
|
that is inaccurate, except there was no "Anybody but a DLC Candidate" option. I won't vote for anyone who is still on the DLC rolls at the time of the elections. I don't care how "Liberal" they are, how disliked they are within the organization, how tough they've talked up to the elections, or what my former relationship is to the candidate -- Any candidate who is still on the DLC Rolls, supports The Third Way, or has anything in his or her platform supporting Corporatist policies does not get my vote, my time, my effort, my $$$ ------- Nuthin'! And, I mean it.
I also believe, over and above her leadership position in the DLC, Hillary is unelectable, and the most polarizing Democrat this Party could nominate.

Even if my personal choice was not an option, I would vote for someone else before I voted for Hillary Clinton. Unless, by some horrendous cruel trick of fate, I was forced to choose between Biden, Hillary, and Warner. I would pick Hillary in that instance. But any other Dem candidate would be better than her.

Personally I think 2008 is too important to throw it away to satisfy Clintonian ambition. It would be alright to challenge the status quo and try to elect a woman President, if there wasn't so much at stake. But there is and I can not support someone who has - AT BEST - a 50/50 shot at winning; and - AT WORST - no chance at all.

28. I would love to, in good conscience, support her, however she showed |
|
her true colors to me early in her term. She took a huge check and threw a party for Tata in the very same week that IBM laid off either 8000 or 15000 workers in New York. That hypocrisy in combination with her idiotic support for the ongoing mass-murder in Iraq makes her unacceptable to me as a leader.:patriot:

22. The reasons I wouldn't are: |
|
1. A Hillary candidacy would give the right wingnuts far too big a rallying point.
2. She is not forthright enough in her support for the little guy. Someone like Russ Feingold clearly supports the little guy. I'd rather have him or someone like him.
3. I don't think she could win.
4. While it would be tempting to see it as a "two-for-one" presidency--in which we would get the influence of Bill Clinton, as well as Hillary as president--I really think that she is mostly independent of his influence.
That said, if it were a certainty that, as president, she could force through legislation overhauling our health-care system, I might reconsider. Although, at the moment, even my concerns about lack of health-care are overshadowed by my eagerness to end the warmongering.

wondered what to do IF she was nominated. My heart wouldn't be in it and I DOUBT I could campaign for her, but would HAVE to vote for her.
But the Clinton/Chrissy flap should be a real indication of a small indication of just how ATTACKED she would be. I realize she's competent, intelligent and can handle so much crap, but to run a campaign that would be based on fending off CONSTANT accusations doesn't seem very "smart" for us Democrats!
We need to go with someone else simply because her name is Clinton!

not in the primary...and I don't know about the general either...I suppose I would...but...I swore, after voting for ABB the last time...I would NOT sell my integrity down the river to do it a second time...I am tired of having a candidate crammed down my throat just because someone high up, thinks that this or that person deserves it now, cause it's "their turn"...It should be about who's the best person for the job...somewhere we've lost sight of that, in favor of other things, such as who the corporations support, or who can raise the most money... wb

I like Gore, Edwards, Byah, and others, but I hope Kerry doesn't run. I didn't vote for him in the 2004 primary (I did in the election, though), and I think Hillary is a far better candidate. She will not allow swift boat style attacks to go unanswered for days on end.
