CA- What happend to Arnold? |
|
Edited on Sun Oct-01-06 11:09 PM by nickshepDEM
It seems like yesterday that he was getting his ass handed to him in the Sepcial Election. His approval ratings arent that great either (53% disapprove). Now he's headed for an easy victory. Arnold - 55% Angelides - 33% http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-poll1oct01,0,7216956.story?coll=la-home-headlines

2. Angelides is a total dud |
|
End of story. He makes Gray Davis look like the life of the party.

7. Bingo, we have a winner. I'm as much of a Dem as you can get |
|
but can't get excited about Angelides - we should have run John Garamendi, and we could have had a real race, but NOOOOOO, we had to run the most unexciting nerd we could find. I'm pissed and will hold my nose and vote for Phil, but I don't really want to.

I never had 1% hope for this race. I see all the criticism about Angelides but I'm certain any of our nominees would have been swamped. In fact, I'm still kicking myself for not wagering on Arnold on Tradesports a few months ago. There were some contracts offered at 60 but I was greedy and sure enough the numbers soared to the 90+ range.
There were exit polls in '03 indicating Arnold brought a surreal number of people to the polls to vote enthusiastically for him, not merely against Gray Davis. Once I saw that I gave up on '06. Something like that with the celebrity backdrop is not going to evaporate. If we had caught the perfect election timing late last fall I'm sure it would have been much closer, but of course Arnold would have played things differently if the vote had been coming up at that point.

5. After a bitter primary fight, Anglides disappeared. |
|
In California campaigns are waged in the media. Angelides has no ads on tv. The Calif. Dem Party is running some anti-Arnold ads, but nothing from Angelides. I've never seen anything like it. It's like he's not interested in the job.
I'll bet if Dems had seen this coming, more would have voted for Westly in the primary. I voted for Westly only because I thought he would be a better opponent against Arnold. At this point I'm thinking anyone would have been a better opponent. It's beyond pathetic.

6. We have a Democratic Legislature that put together some good bills, |
|
like The "Divest from Sudan" bill and a Global Warming Bill. Arnuld signed both of those last week...and so, due to the timing he ends up smelling like a rose. In addition, he made amends with Black voters by going to some Black churches and more or less apologizing (he came to mine as well)...and so that incident went away...in particular since Angelides did not weight in on the matter anyways.
California, like many others places is in a state of "what have you done for me lately". The memory hole is hard at work....and if it happened before yesterday, no one remembers all of that. Add to that Arnuld's star power, the fact that many hollywood Dems are backing him (Dems like Spielberg) means that many Dems are not donating to Angelides, that Arnuld's wife is a Kennedy, and there yo go!
Plus Angelides done disappeared since the primaries. Really, I don't know where he is! Our local News said he was in Oakland today...and so was I, and I didn't hear a peep from him .
It's the classic Strong star incumbent against 95 pound weakling....and I ain't talking about David from the bible either.
That's why I voted Westly in the primaries, cause what is happening could have been forecasted by a two year old. :eyes:

8. Angelides is going to run a four-week campaign, like he did in primaries |
|
Edited on Mon Oct-02-06 12:38 AM by 1932
He ran commercials for a week the first week in September, and he's starting to run them again now.
Arnold supporters should make a big deal about Arnold's lead today, because if he starts dropping after Angelides starts spending his money, this will be their last chance to talk about Arnold being up by 10-17% (depending on which poll you're reading).
And anyone who's upset that he hasn't been on TV more should send him a check so that he can run ads.
All the money is behind Arnold in this election, and nobody but Angelides wants to represent the people.

12. He's running against a stiff...and Arnold is now a democrat...again... |
|
Just as before...until after the election he becomes the fascist he really is, just as before...I was telling this shit to people when Musclehead was at 34% and they called me every name in the book around here...fuckers have absolutely no preception nor how politics, along with the media, works...only what they hear and see on TV...

15. Everyone that works at the DNC in CA should be fired, replaced or booted. |
|
They picked someone with the charisma of a kumquat with little to nothing to distinguish himself from just another DLC party HACK.
And they wonder why Arnold, who is a Republican, but showing amazing agility to change his possition on issues to kick his DLC ass.
I say, to the Democratic party hacks to go back and listen to the people and get a clue.

16. look if Arnold is acting like a Democrat, then why replace him? |
|
I love the fact that he has taken on a more democratic stance, and even has made environmental policies a center piece of his platform..
If Arnold is doing a good job, why waste money on trying to defeat him?
