...that the recent Republican woes could actually be an attempt to throw the election? If Republicans were to hold onto power in this election, it would signal 8 straight years of Republican rule. In '08, they would have no way to redirect blame toward the Democratic party. If they throw the election this year, the Democratic party will have at least SOME power, and thus perceived responsibility for the mess the Repubs have created over the past 6 years (and the aftermath of that mess for the next two). This will enable them to direct blame elsewhere where, if they were to retain power of the House and Senate, the blame for all problems would be solely on their heads.
Just a thought.

Not really. When you have basically the power to do what you want, big majorities in the Senate and the House, you don't want to lose it.

2. I disagree. If the GOP were to retain power, they would... |

say that this means the people support the GOP and therefore they will retain the White House in 2008. If the Democrats win this year, the GOP will say that a GOP President must be elected in 2008 to give "balance" to the Democratic congress. You see, the GOP will spin it to their advantage either way. I am sick and tired of the GOP having power! Vote Democratic!

...construe my post as a suggestion that we not vote Democratic. I was just pondering the political situation and wanted to see if anyone else had thoughts. Definitely vote Dem!

3. Sometimes shit just happens. And this shit happened TO them. |

They didn't do it. There's no way they'd agree to cede any power at all, even to make the Democrats look bad; they are all about power. But the Foley incident has absolutely blindsided them -- that's totally obvious from the infighting that's going on.

Way too dangerous for that to be even a remote possibility.

6. It crossed my mind..... |

when I heard Pat Buchanan say something to that effect on hardball tonight. He didn't say that they are throwing the election but that it may be to the repubs advantage in '08 if they lost in '06.

A Democratic congress could mean prison for them. That's why I believe they're going to rig the election even if every Dem is ahead in the polls by 90 points! They have no choice.
