Abramoff: the gift that keeps on giving - top Rove aide resigns
and they're off and running ... just when you thought the entire republican Congress was going to be "de-Foley-ated" (like that one?), an old friend returns for yet another round of fun ... this time, recent revelations have linked top Rove aide Susan Ralston to the Abramoff scandal ... does anyone actually believe that if she was selling influence, Rove didn't know about it and wasn't involved ?????

a White House spokeman "considers the matter closed" ... bwahaahahahahahahhahha ... i'll consider the matter closed when Rove and bush are sharing a prison cell ...

An aide to top White House political adviser Karl Rove resigned in the fallout over a congressional report showing many White House contacts with ex-lobbyist Jack Abramoff, a spokeswoman said on Friday.

Last week's report by the U.S. House of Representatives Government Reform Committee said Rove aide Susan Ralston had passed inside White House information to superlobbyist Abramoff while she was also accepting his tickets to nine sports and entertainment events. <skip>

Ralston chose to step down and "we support her decision and consider the matter closed," Perino said.

Ralston worked for Abramoff before joining Rove as a key aide in the White House in 2001.

1. I heard this on WTOP when I was out running some errands
Your post beat me to it.

Susan Ralston was the one who was Jack-off Abram-off's secretary before she took this gig. I wonder why they all felt it was such a good deal for her to be inside the WH. All innocent, I'm *sure*.

5. Ah, the memories
But didn't they say she went to the Treasury Dept last year because she couldn't take the pressure? Oh well, I guess they lie about everything.

7. That could be possible -
2004 in the WH war room with Rove
2005 at the Treasury possibly to hide her.

8. I think this is quite important.
It seems to signify that Fat Boy Rove is indeed feeling the heat for his Abramoff ties--after deflecting said heat for so long.

And I am guessing that Ralston was an important part of Rove-world. So... would this put a crimp in Fat Karl's usual pre-election smearmongering and reputation-nuking activities? Hope so.

10. A raise from $66,700 to 122,000 after the election??????

Ms. Ralston was promoted after the 2004 election, getting the title special assistant to the president and a raise to $122,000, from $64,700.

11. Ah yes, shades of the "Sleaze Factor"
For those of you too young or who don't remember, this was the term given to Reagan's cabinet. The unbridled lawlessness of this bunch was legendary, and the convictions they garnered was astonishing.

Reactionaries scorn "the law"; that's for peons. It's cool to break the law and it's a virtue to get away with things. This is the dark side of the American character, but it's always been there.

12. I didn't realize it but Abramoff was good for me
Edited on Sat Oct-07-06 05:50 AM by Awsi Dooger
He kept the anti-online gambling legislation from reaching the House floor via payoffs. Once he was disgraced and gone it got through the House then assbite Frist stuck it onto the port security bill at the last minute of the final session last Friday. Really complicates things in terms of funding the offshore books and getting payments from them.

The gambling sites are in outrage with many posters saying they are lifelong Republicans but will never vote that way again. I'd just as soon let them vote Republican and get rid of the damn legislation. Some of the offshore books are already panicking and excluding Americans.
