Iraq profiteering COULD be the next scandal to hit the Republicans
Bush and the Republicans fought any oversight on the $87 billion budget and others - much went to profiteers who didn't even have the decency to give the soldiers good water, food and tents. It would have been bad enough if they simply blatantly over charged the government but they provided bad stuff!

The Foley scandal challanges that they are the party of values
The Abramoff scandal challanges that they are the party of ethical business
This challanges that they are the party of patriotism, not to mention it hits values too.

John Kerry and several activist groups(Move on, for one) are trying to get as many people to see a documentary on this on Oct 14th as possible. They are "organizing" house parties to view the documentary and will have a conference call to suggest what we can do on this. This is not about John Kerry, this really hits at the core of the perfidity of the Bush administration.

Here's a link to a post with a link to sign up. My husband and I intendto forward Kerry's email to everyone in our addressbook.

Yesterday, there was a thread discussing an article where Bill Clinton speaks about the need of Democrats to counter the new media, which spews lies unchecked. He did a great job defining the problem - this is not the media we grew up. He didn't give many concrete ways that this could be done - though it is fantastic he is articulating what the problem on and very likely working on solutions. Some of us in the posts, veered off topic to speculate about how, in a world where they control far more of the mass media, we could get our facts out. We didn't think of this, but seeing it later, it seems a possible way. This has some potential of doing this because you start with each organization's email lists and if they are convinced, they sign up AND forward the invitation to others. In this case, we know they are starting with an initial list of 3,000,000 plus.

This film could jump start a conversation on the Iraq war. It is NOT on Kerry/Feingold, but the more basic issue of letting war profiteers hurt soldiers putting their lives on the line.

4. I agree that SEX gets people's attention
That is precisely why this type of activism is needed. The information this is based on has been recounted before Congress, at least in part. It has been written on boards like this. It takes more effort for it to break through to people.

BUT IT IS DEVASTATING! This IS something that could break through to good people in the heartland. It could make people rethink the mental bond they have that ties the military to the Republicans. I was born and raised in a very red state in the Midwest - this will affect people if they are pushed to see it.

Three years ago the boy King created a special investigator for IraqNam.
This year as they were getting close to jumping on Haliburton and others, he cancelled the office's authority

6. That's a good point. You should pass it on to Kerry's office.
Or Greenwald's.

10. K&R! Olbermann had the creator of this film on for a short segment
recently. I think he could have spent the whole hour plus on the mess this admin has created in Iraq and the non-existent oversight.

11. I wish KO would do a longer segment on the really important issues.
Edited on Sat Oct-07-06 03:57 PM by blm
Sometimes O'Reilly, FOX, or Foley gets extra segments while incredibly important issues like Rice's and 9-11 commission lies and war profiteering get the short segment treatment.

12. Dems in my area are trying to organize a viewing of the film
in local libraries. This makes it a little bigger. That's great that you're sending it to your whole address book. I think what's important is to do that occasionally, so people know you really mean it.

13. I know, I've never done it for anything political
Edited on Sat Oct-07-06 06:07 PM by karynnj
We did it to broadcast an accomplishment of a daughter to avoid people hearing from mutual friends - but that's the only time.

That's great that they're doing it in a library. It would be nice to have a big group to see it together.

16. I thought Clinton was one of the reasons the media is in such a poor
state now.

As to Iraq for Sale... my copy should be here any day now, looking forward to watching it.

17. As a rule war profiteering would be investigated by the Senate's
Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. This committee is the successor to the Truman Committee that investigated profiterring during WWII.

As long as the Repukes control the senate, the chairman of this committee is that well known weasel and Bush stooge, Norm Coleman. Unless the Democrats get control of the Senate, or the MSM finally decides to report it, I don't hold out a lot of hope for this scandal coming to light. There's no way Normie would cross Bush with this.
