Lets Figure 2008 as we end the 2006 campaign -- Who is able to lead?
Edited on Tue Oct-10-06 09:03 PM by Sensitivity
Hey, as we campaign and watch how we take the congress, there is something we can we can take away for 2008 --- we can connect with how all potential 2008 candidates connect to the citizenry and can help lead the party out of the wilderness.

Who is really willing and able to rally the people. Let’s forget about the pundit spin and Republican manipulations.

From what we have seen, who is really able to lead.
And lets keep watching with an open mind.
Who is really able to make a difference.

Lets stick to the usual suspects:

Hillary Clinton
Al Gore
John Edwards
John Kerry
Wesley Clark
Barack Obama
Russ Feingold
Joseph Biden
Mark Warner
Evan Bayh
Tom Vilsack
Bill Richards

2. Why not just wait one month?
Everyone has opinions of course, so I do too, but I am increasingly trying to use my online time to whip up interest and support for Democratic candidates in this Fall's election. If I find time to make a thoughtful post right now this is not the topic I will make time to post about.

But I know folks love to speculate about 2008. Me too, it's just that personally I decided to put that aside during the home stretch campaign of 2006 Otherwise I would love to talk about this stuff.

Which new candidates running for Congress do you think will provide important leadership to Democrats and the nation for the next two years if they get elected next month? I nominate Eric Massa for one.

6. Agree generally. But this is the real thing happening. Paying attention
now may help clarify the minds of we activist who have a lot of passion and ideas that may
not be based on reality.

I agree that we will revisit this in a month.

8. Agree.
After the election is over, we can all start ripping each other's throats out over who we support for the presidential nomination, but I'd at least like to see us wait until then.

If we don't manage to take at least one house of Congress, the question may be a moot one anyway.

7. Well I see that John McCain is blaming the Clintons for No. Korea
He has come out strongly to put at least part of the blame on the former president for North Korea not being stopped from developing a nuclear bomb. He has put the onus on Hillary to acknowledge this and not blame Bush for it as she has done. (Forget about the last 6 years, right?)

My point is that McCain is positioning himself to run as the Republican candidate in 2008, and he evidently sees Hillary as his likely Democratic opponent. I too think she will be our nominee and hopefully our next president.

9. Yes, but it's Kerry who defends Clinton and smacks McCain as an insincere

critic who is angling for the nomination of his party, because his claim about NK and against Clinton doesn't hold up.

11. Gore/Clark
they are realists, they are mature, they have "character" (the "internet" slander aside - which can be defeated with a concerted media campaign aimed straight at the purveyors of that lie) & between the 2 of them they have experience & leadership to counter anything the GOP puts out.

mccains' POW past does NOT trump clark's NATO leadership. climate change & our energy future are linked, and Gore has a hopeful, challenging message for both.

and www.dailyhowler.com for campaign strategist.

13. Kerry- period.
Nothing much against others on the list, but Kerry shines brighter compared to the others on the issues that matter now and will matter in 08. He is a surviver and he is a fighter. I don't care about what went down in 04, it is old news. Everyone counted him out after his loss. The party and many people tried hard to disregard him. However, he has come back stronger than ever and a reminder to Rove and company that they failed to destroy this man's passion and commitment to take this country forward and get it right.

14. Al Gore and Wes Clark
I know the DLC is pushing Mark Warner - but we need a great personality and I've been yet to be moved by him.

16. Did you mean "Pushing Out?" I think Sen. Clinton is DLC choice. And
she seems to be doing her share for 2006 so far.

15. I'm about ready to take a chance with Obama. They've discredited...
our party stalwarts in the eyes of the public, and I think we need someone new. Barack seems to be able to light a fire in people.
