It is interesting because it shows he is right on top of each race, trying to step in when he can. Having to allocate limited funds when so many candidates are suddenly becoming viable.

Last night, I was pleased to receive a phone call from Howard Dean. Until recently, it has been a struggle to receive attention or an audience was the DNC. Now that John Shimkus has been identified as vulnerable, we want to keep our audience with IL-19 constituents and the DNC and convert that attention to a November victory.

Dr. Dean expressed a strong interest in the IL-19 race. While it would have been terrific to have DNC support several weeks or months ago, we will gladly accept the recognition.
Dr. Dean agrees with my assessment that John Shimkus is deservedly vulnerable. His inaction should result in dismissal by his constituents.
Unfortunately, Mr. Dean did not promise money from the DNC immediately. He indicated that the DNC would try to provide some monetary assistance, but that no promises could be made. This is where we need the help of the Kossacks!"
Dean said the other day that funds are running short with all the candidates suddenly needing money. To me this shows he cares enough to pick up the phone and call back while others did not.
Here is one of the comments from that thread I find interesting.
"We have tried to call the DCCC and Crystal King who is our regional coordinator. She doesn't return her cell phone messages. The DNC did answer the phone and listen. We thank Howard Dean and the WLF. They have tried to energize the grassroots. We just believe that there should be some funds available if something changes in the course of the campaign. If this were a battle, the DCCC would march into the river after the bridge had been blown out because they wouldn't modify their course. The Democratic Party has to adapt quickly to rapidly changing issues. The Foley issue is stinky and it affects children. We here have and can do a lot on a little. We can do a direct mail to all 3 and 2 D Dems with $20,000 just for postage. We can get the people to work and get the job done. We can then go talk to the swing voters. We have tried to draw Mr. Shimkus out for a debate but he is holed up at home counting his warchest. We have made do with nothing and only a sprinkling of real party support. The county parties that have helped us are great. We know that this is a long shot but we feel that it is a battle worth fighting. The main issue that I have is that I have given money to many others through the DCCC, the Progressive patriots, Boxer's Pac, etc even while doing this campaign. I respond to pleas. The DCCC should realize that they are not the only ones who understand human nature and voting patterns. There is some talent and a lot of determination in other who don't do politics for a living, but realize that we need this election to live. Every little bit helps. Call Crystal at the DCCC and tell her about us. Call Rahm Emmanuel."
I guess this is a unique situation for our Democrats to be in right now. It is better than having too much money and no viable candidates.
I also saw that Dean was in PA tonight for a Sestak fundraiser. It was just yesterday he was in Miami. That just sounds tiring to my older body.
