Wes Clark blogging today about Iran/North Korea crises.

I am very concerned about the Administration's response to North Korea. Their policy has demonstrably failed. You can't get brittle with the NK's...they don't respond to that...you sort of have to work them around...we did that in 1994 to get the Framework Agreement, but it wasn't enough....I am very uneasy with the military options I hear talked about...I don't know how good their military is, but as a matter of principle I wouldn't believe they won't fight, and fight hard, and they have had a formidable arsenal. And NK is running out of options, meaning they may think they have less to lose. We are in a situation of rising danger, which I hope the Administration understands.

I am very concerned about the Administration's plans about Iran. And clearly there is a risk that two threatened nations may cooperate to frustrate what they see as US intent. We could have truly created an Axis of Evil.

I do believe there are still those within the national security apparatus advocating a strike against Iran. I suppose it is possible before November, but I believe that this will be politically difficult for the Administration to focus on with the NK crisis and the election problems. So sometime in the spring is more likely the target window.

I :cry: that he isn't already our president. This whole war...all the lives lost and the never ending eroding of our Constitution could have been so different if Clark had been out president.

America wasn't smart enough in 2004 but hopefully they've finally wised up. But too late we get shmart!

I can't really can't imagine just how difficult it must be for Wes Clark to witness the daily bungling of the bush administration in foreign policy (also domestic policy)....particularly because he knows better than most, the danger they have thrown this country in through their incompetence and greed.

When bush is deposed, we're going to need him more than anyone I can think of to set this country right again. I just hope we all can last through these next 2 years.

they understand sqaut. They're probably sitting there with ROVE trying to figure out what's the best political move to make, bombing Iraq and risking NK bombing Japan, or bombing NK and having to fight a bigger army that potentially has nukes sitting somewhere...

everything with them is political. they probably think (and our probably right) that a war started in the next week would guarantee republican control of the senate, or, if it's waited to be started til next year, it would carry through the 08 election to ensure (in their minds, I'd say doubtful on that election) a republican victory, or a cancelling of the election if it became a REAL war, where we were in peril of losing 100,000 men quickly...

sigh... I want Clark, or Gore or maybe one of the other choices (like Kerry) in office now. A Gore Clark or Clark Feingold ticket would be such a great of fresh air!

6. This post should also be prefaced with...

The fact that General Clark wrote this while sitting in an airport waiting for a flight, chatting with supporters on his website. This is off-the-cuff, straight from the heart, dialog that wasn't concocted by staffers or tested by focus groups. This is what Wes actually thinks about the situation, not what studies show people want to hear.

Wes is the most articulate speaker I've heard and is able to bounce from topic to topic without warning or notes. If he were to actually write a position paper on NK and the potential crisis at hand it would blow the doors off of anything the current administration, or any other potential 2008 candidates, could dream of.

We should be happy to have someone so knowledgeable on our side!

But do you think for a minute that will stop the Bushies from giving it a go? Do you REALLY think they learned anything from the Iraq invasion? Or from Israel's failure in Lebanon?

Don Rumsfeld is a peacetime fly-boy who never made it to the rank where you study military history and strategy. He thinks you can do anything with enough bombs. The defense contractors who sell Air Force weapons systems, not to mention the Air Force generals looking to retire to a plush job with those contractors, keep telling Rummy exactly what he wants to hear.
