I think Jay Leno needs to come out of the closet and admit
he just might be a freeptard.

I don't think it's fair to have the Repuke candidate for governor of California (the state where his show is taped for crissakes) as a guest less than a month before the election.....without offering the Dem an invitation.

I've always been a huge David Letterman fan........it's no wonder why! :eyes:

The Governator Visits Leno, and His Opponent Squawks
Thursday, October 12, 2006; Page C07

California State Treasurer Phil Angelides's campaign office fired off letters yesterday to NBC stations in the state demanding they pull last night's broadcast of "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" featuring Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger or be prepared to give Angelides equal time.

Schwarzenegger, who is seeking reelection in 26 days, appeared as a guest on the show for the fifth time since using the NBC program to announce his first candidacy in 2003.

1. how does leno get away with this ****.
Democrats need do something to demand equal time. Leno just has some thing for Arni because he has a car thing going on. Does Leno own a Hummer? So NBC can be Arni's lauching pad. Not just once but twice. FCC laws need be revamped so they can't be used for peronal preferences. Yeah, I don't think Leno has ever been all that funny.

8. Democrats helped to destroy the Fairness Doctrine
It would be the height of GOP-like hypocricy for them to complain that the media is not being fair anymore.

15. Really.??/ I thought the Reagan FCC ended the Fairness doctrine.
Seems I recall writing Rep. Markey during Reagan's Administration furious Reagan's FCC ended the Fairness Doctrine in Like 84. Clinton did help destroy the Media as we know it with the new Communications act of 96, in conjunction with N. Gingrick. But, the Fairness Doctrine is something different.

25.  you are correct
Clinton signed into law a new Communnications Act that allows for greater concentration of Media ownership. But, the Reagan FCC outlawed the Fairness Doctrine in 84. His FCC claimed the Media, (as all business' are considered persons'), so they have a right to not hear opinions contrary to their personal beliefs. Corporations have been considered persons for legal purposes since like the 1880's; with all the protections personhood grants.
Reagan's FCC ended The Fairness Doctrine administratively. The Democratic House tried to overturn it. Rep. Ed Markey was head of the Committee relevant to FCC issues.

31. If any rule remains, it's applied unequally.
Back in 2000, both Gore and * were doing the TV talk show circuit.

Nader was scheduled to go on Tom Snyder's program, but when the show aired, it was announced that Nader was prohibited from appearing, because equal time wasn't being offered to Gore and *.

Regardless of what anyone feels about Nader, this was a classic double standard.

4. No, it's quite alright.
Leno was interviewing Ahnuld the ENTERTAINER, not Ahnuld the POLITICIAN. See? There's no conflict here at all. What you saw was "Terminator" Ahnuld, not "Governor" Ahnuld. Big difference. :sarcasm:

I can't watch him. Sorry I've missed the appearances of some good people who probably got through their screen.

10. guess it depends:
some exemptions are given to news and interview programs.

Yesterday NBC said the governor's chat with Leno would fall under an exemption for news interviews.

Seriously.

"Consistent with 'The Tonight Show With Jay Leno's' previous practice, NBC is following the news guidelines for interviewing a political candidate," the network said yesterday in a statement. "Under the news guidelines, the scheduled appearance of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on the Oct. 11 broadcast is not subject to the FCC's equal-time provisions."

THATS BULLSHIT

The prezledent can decide which laws are constitutional and worth executing/enforcing.

NBC can decide which FCC regs it follows.

11. Sadly, Leno :(
:puke:

"Leno has had the upper hand in the ratings. For the past year, Leno has averaged 5.71 million viewers each night to Letterman's 4.16, according to Nielsen Media Research. That gap is more than 200,000 viewers wider than the previous year, mostly due to Letterman's audience shrinking, Nielsen said."

And he's had Democrats on the show before (Al Gore comes to mind). Having Arnold on doesn't mean he's a Republican.

23. Leno betrays his RW leanings almost every night.
His Clinton jokes are Not Funny. As my sister says, they're so 20th century.

He averages about one good joke per monologue and the rest of his show is only worth watching for someone really special. He should just retire and let Conan take over already.
