TROUBLE! a tight race in Virginia BEACH!?!?!
Edited on Thu Oct-12-06 10:52 AM by underpants
Trouble for the Republicans that is.

I stopped by an friend's house on the Peninsula on Monday and as we talked there was nothing but political commercials on during the local news. Living in Richmond we get some ads but this was like living in a recognized swingstate. So I had to look this up.

BTW- the Beach is the major funding source for Republicans in the state of Virginia . Here is a history of the recently redraw district it was represented by Dem. Owen Pickett for 14 years. Drake followed Ed Schrock after he had to leave due to that whole gay sex thing (oh the irony).

Also Wednesday, Reuters news service released a poll that shows Kellam leading U.S. Rep. Thelma Drake by 4 percentage points in the race for Virginia's 2nd Congressional District.

The poll, conducted Sept. 25 to Oct. 2 by Reuters/Zogby, has a margin of error of 4.5 points. That means the race between Kellam, a Democrat, and Drake, a Republican, is too close to call, according to this poll.

1. Cool. Is this Pat Robertson's district?
Is there also a large navy influence in the area? The Tide has turned!

2. Yes and yes
Pat Robertson's CBN broadcasts from the Beach (special road construction for the Rev.) and the largest Naval base in the world is in Norfolk. All of Hampton Roads in one way or another lives off the military dole.

Fighting Dem to run in the district, we'd have had it sewn up by now.

Has the story of Kellam's conviction for assault in 1978 gained any traction?

3. Yep, it is
I hate driving by that slew of hate everyday.

Yes very large Navy influence both active and retired, I in fact slip into the retired, the reason we are here is because of the Navy and we are still here because of our kids and because of the Navy facilities that we STILL can use.( I highlighted still, because who knows what they are going to take away from us next)

5. Virginia? That's a "red" state, right?
(usually) ...

I guess that explains how a Dem leading by about the margin of error in a RED AREA would be considered "close" ...

If I'm incorrect ... sorry ...

9. I have never seen anything close to that many commercials
and I grew up in York County so we got the Norfolk channels. This was on WAVY 10.

I was amazed. Since we were talking through most of this I thought it was one long news story on the races but then I realized that they were also reporting on the flooding in Franklin so there had to be commercials.

This might shock you but I was hearing some good feedback about Webb...and I was in Poquoson!!!

13. Yes there is
Kellam-Drake. I live in the area, and there are so many tv ads for each. I think Kellam is going to pick up this seat.
