1. I'd love to kick LIEberman out of the Senate, but it's not looking good. |
|
If we can win the Senate without counting him, I will be very happy. Then the dems can tell him to fuck off, if they want to.

Leiberman's support from Republicans is better than Republican support for Republicans. Without it, he would be toast.
As far as I'm concerned, he is like a Green running against Casey in Penn....taking all of the sloppy Republican support he can. What a whore.
If he caucuses with Dems, he should have his seniority stripped. If he caucuses with the Pukes...well...he can start anew on seniority.
He should not be in ANY committee, because he will derail any effort to undo the damage Bush has done. We all know it.
Nice to see Brown kicking DeWine's ass. That's the race I'll be voting in.

I hate it as much as anyone, but letting Lieberman keep his seniority as a democrat is ensurance against him flipping all the way to the right ...
I live in PA, and ... Well, have to bring it home, but I will get over my disgust for my fellow PAians for allowing it to last this long, but I will be DARN proud when Santorum is allowed to just stay down VA without bothering to drag his butt up here every 6 years ...
The guy I most proud of is Ford ... If he pulls Tennessee off, that will be one of the greatest wins in recent political history ...

3. Can someone explain why it's so close in NJ? |
|
Seems to me given the state's blue tint in recent statewide elections and all the current troubles/scandals that Menendez should have this one in his back pocket by now.

6. Exactly! Combine that with Menendez not being known statewide |
|
Even this late in the game Menendez has a lot lower name recognition than Kean. But that's good because it means Menendez has an upside and with much more money than Kean Menendez can take advantage and build up his name recognition before the election.
The corruption allegations took their toll as well but Menendez seems to be beating them back and the newspapers are slowly coming around to state that the allegations are just that - allegations with no substance.

1 - That Menendez acted unethically by receiving about $300,000 rent for an apartment building he owned that was rented to a government agency. It turns out that Menendez sought an ethics opinion from the House ethics people and was advised there was no problem, that he could rent it without any ethics violation.
2 - A sleezy Hudson County character charged with corruption who unfortunately was also a Menendez advisor went around dropping Menendez name when looking for jobs for political pals, which he taped, apparently to get himself a better plea deal. Menendez name is used on the tapes to try to influence others to give jobs, but there is no proof whatsoever that Menendez knew anything about it or did anything whatsoever to authorize the use of his name. In fact, in one of these situations Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ 9th) was pushed to give such a job and refused because he thought the worker was not up to the job.

On the back of heavy Republican support I'll be interested to see how his views on the environment change, if at all.
While Lieberman leaves a lot to be desired his environmental record is pretty solid. The Republicans hate the nusance that is the environment and it will be interesting to see if their trick pony can change tricks.

17. I'm a tad bit skeptical about Ohio, although SurveyUSA is usually good |
|
Edited on Thu Oct-12-06 03:35 PM by Hippo_Tron
SurveyUSA also has Strickland 60% Blackwell 32%. I know that Strickland is going to clean Blackwell's clock, but I don't think it's going to be by 28 points. Either way, Blackwell is toast no matter how many shenanigans he pulls. I'm not sold on the extent at which Diebold steals vote, although be it Diebold or just old fashioned disenfranchisement I do think that there won't be fair play in Ohio this year and Brown has to overcome that.
The good news in Ohio is that once Strickland is Governor, he can work to clean up the election system for 2008.
Also, if Brown wins statewide in Ohio he might be looked at as a national candidate ten years down the road. Strickland certainly would have national potential if he were 10 years younger. Also, I can see Tim Ryan on a national ticket down the line. Ohio is GOP controlled right now but we've got a lot of rising stars in the Ohio Dem Party.

19. Strickland can clean up the election system |
|
especially since Jennifer Brunner's race is looking good for Secy of State. It also bodes well for Dems the next time the legislative boundaries are redrawn.
Strickland will probably still be working with a GOP controlled legislative branch, but he can still get a lot done.
Don't look for Sherrod Brown to run for president, though. He's not the "executive" type, he likes being a legislator.
