Goodbye America....from Canada
Edited on Sat Oct-14-06 06:39 PM by Brundle_Fly
Tuesday 10/17/06 9:15 a.m.

We'll no longer be friends. I will no longer come to visit.

I doubt I'd be welcome anyways. Like most banana republics you probably wont want much in the way of foreign influences inside your country spreading our idealism. The values you used to hold along with us, you have now turned your back on, in the name of your war on terrorism and sudden return to monarchy.

I live about one mile north of your border, in Ontario, Canada, from my window I can see Morristown NY, and I wonder just what the hell is going on in the minds of the people there. Do they really know what is about to change? All the rights they had supposedly held so dear, just scrubbed away, in one swoop of a dictator's pen.

Will some people start to go missing, is being a democrat going to become a crime? Are the more progressive voices going to be branded by state television, as dissenters and terrorists? Is anyone even awake to this?

Goodbye America.... I will miss you.

55. Me? Thinking Seriously Of Costa Rica! SERIOUSLY!!!
Already talked to people who can hook me up with some good realtors. Have some property up for sale right now, will have to wait until my live-in mother-in-law to pass away, but already told my husband that if we lose, and there is FRAUD again, I'm outta here!

I may even go anyway. I talked with someone on Friday about my passports, weird that this subject has been posted.

Ain't THAT A Shame???? I know that was a song a long time ago, but can't remember exactly when. My older sisters used to sing it as I recall.

I don't believe that would happen in a million years. The Bush admin. wants everyone to think things are normal. Something that extreme, hell even something 25% that extreme would really shatter any support he has.

41. Our rights are inherent, not granted. Nobody gets to sign them away.
Violators will be held accountable, even if it takes awhile.

The Constitution enumerates our rights, it does not grant them.
PS they are your rights too.

50. Not be be nitpicky, but...
...the notion of inhierent rights is nonsensical, it's based on the Deist Creationism of Enlightenment philosphers who thought rights were granted by God (you can see this when someone screams it's his/her "God-given right" to do X). Rights are the creation of society, they do not exist outside the heads of people, all the more reason to shake the sheeple out of thier stupor before it's too late.

15. Let me put it this way...
sometimes you don't know how well you are doing. Now, all you have to do is look across the border and say..."Well, at least we aren't as crazy as the US." (This is meant to be to be self deprecating humour).

You can also use us as a cautionary tale. Just look at the Conservative Prime Minister you voted in. He is working from the GOP play book and trying the same tactics (privatize health care, and anything else he can privatize, etc). Nip that guy in the bud before this happens to your country too.

And I am sorry to say-due to geography, our fates are linked. I think even Pierre Trudeau cautioned Canadians to watch US politics carefully.

She's a tough ole bitch who can take a punch or two...or ten.

Wait...just wait...when she's finally had enough of her no account, alcoholic, lying, two faced prick asshole she left in charge of her house while she was gone to Iraq...when she gets back from there, she's gonna kick his ass and take him for all he's got. Oh yeah, he talks a good game, praises Jesus and all that, but look what he turns around and does, laughing at her faith when she turns her back and tries to hump the young boys when she's not lookin'. He don't love her, he just used her, and man, is she ever pissed.

Judgement day you say? you better hope it's judgement day and Jesus take you up to heaven before she gets back, cause she's gonna kick his ass until her shoes wear out.

You just wait and see

28. Bush is a tyrant and the biggest mass murderer of the 21st century
Edited on Sat Oct-14-06 07:22 PM by IndianaGreen
Bush has placed himself about the Constitution, as an Americanized version of a corrupt Roman emperor. Bush has committed, and ordered others, to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The stench of tyranny permeates the former land of the free and home of the brave!

Unfortunately many Americans cannot smell the decay from the corpse of our late Constitution, so tightly they have wrapped themselves in American flags made in China by prison labour.

44. Oh I agree he's a tyrant
I think that's something a bit different than being a dictator though.
I don't think the Constitution is dead either ... yet.
Maybe it's in its last throes.}(
The Judiciary still has some kick left in it & the only real problem with the legislature is that it has been acting as a rubber stamp and has abdicated its responsibility or sees its responsiblility differently than I do.
But on a system level not much has changed ..... yet.
Of course I could be wrong.
The way I see it, the next couple of years are really going to tell us where we're at on that level.
I think the jury is still out, as it were.

The evil nutcases have had power disproportionate to their numbers.

I don't know how long it will take, but I do hope that we can take back our country and eventually not be ashamed to call ourselves Americans again.

My fear is that these people won't let go of power under any circumstances. We'll see how Nov. 7th goes and take it from there.

I feel the same way when I look around and wonder what happened. Canada has been our good friend, but a true friend doesn't stand by and support madness and destructive behavior out of friendship.

We'll no longer be friends.

Salesmen tell you what you want to hear; a friend tells you the truth. By that measure, we'd probably find more true friends among the countries who tried to stop us than among those who took the path of least resistance.

49. A tad harsh, but I agree with the sentiment
But I look on America these days with more with sadness than anger or betrayal.

I just hope there will be some kind of sanity coming soon, but I doubt even a successful election or two will fix the problems.

It's too bad. America used to stand for what was right in the world. They were the fighting force for freedom around the globe.

No more.

And furthermore, a new and more malevolent force has taken control of this mighty machine. And it's not ready to let go of that power. And I fear in the struggle to come, there will be real losses.

Please, America, save yourself.

Before all is destroyed.
