Time Magazine has Obama as the next Democratic President.
Edited on Sun Oct-15-06 06:25 PM by oc2002
Um..realy?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I see another Republican in the WH if the Dems go with Obama. Is he not the DLC corporate candidate 'reaching out to Republican'? And you may as well kiss off the Buba votes.

1. Time only occasionally gets it right anymore. Obama has a much
chance as Hillary. Maybe less.

2. Not Ready, and too wishy washy.
He's from my State, but I'd rather see who's more qualified. I do think Hillary is too polarizing for president though.

19. Yes wishy washy
I don't like how he presented himself during the elections, then fell back on things once he got in the senate. I also don't care about his recent positions on things that I addressed with him in a letter (based on his response). I think he's too busy trying to please everyone right now, while he gets his feet wet, and I'd rather see a more qualified candidate.

I do think Hillary is clearly more qualified, but I feel that she's too polarizing. Maybe a VP role for her, then Presidential run might be better. I also don't like how John Kerry just rolled over after the election and gave up.

In conclusion, I'm interested in seeing who all from the party intends to run before I make any decisions to support one candidate or the other. But I do have some feelings about those names being tossed around or considered.

I really wish Bill Clinton could run again, LOL.

28. Clark?
I think Clark is more qualified. He holds liberal ideals, has tons of executive management experience (during his military career), and knows defense and foreign policy better than most.

3. The adjective is "Democratic" not Democrat, unless you're trying to insult
somebody. It's one of the ways Republicans try to deprecate the Democratic Party. We Democrats don't need to go along with them.

Senator Joe McCarthy in the 50's was one of the first people to decide to maul the name, then Ronald Reagan and Orrin Hatch picked up on it.

7. Clinton, Gore and Kerry were all DLC, so what is your point with
"Is he not the DLC candidate" comment? The DLC presidential candidate record for success (or failure) is 2 out of the last 4 elections.

I will not support a DLCer again.

11. I got your lack of support, but what makes you think Obama wouldn't win
just because he is DLC? Many people here think both Kerry and Gore won, which would make the DLC's record of winning elections 4/4.

23. Clinton made the DLC, not the
other way around and the DLC has NOT won an election since 1996. Revisionist history doesn't fly here.

13. What? So a white woman isn't scaring the Republican base enough,
Time has to go for a black man?

Paaaallleeezzee.

As if either HRC or Obama could flip those barely-purple states. This country under Republican rule has become far too sexist and racist for that.

20. Better just keep the field to white men so we don't upset the Republicans
Sit tight women and minorities. Your day will come. One day. Just be patient. Just stay behind the scenes and be quiet until we tell you it's ok to step up.

Shhhh.

15. I can't see Obama running for the White House before 2012.
I think a Senator needs to serve a full term before trying for the next step.

Plus, in another 6 years, I'm hoping we'll all have a clearer idea of his positions. He's a damn charsmatic individual, but running an empty suit only seems to work for the other guys.

be a VP first, then run for prez.

Where the fuck did this meme come from on DU? I think its just jealous supporters of other potential candidates trying to tear him down. Obama is a solid progressive.

25. Obama isn't DLC
That looks to be an interesting article, though. Time did one on Hillary not too long ago, and about how she is making inroads with staunchly conservative republicans- including regular attendance at Brownback's Wednesday prayer meetings. According to the article, Brownback actually apologized to her for all of the mean, nasty things he has said about her in the past.

I like Obama, but I picture him in a VP role if he makes any kind of move as early as 2008.

27. I wrote this for another thread, but, please consider this:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=2884924&mesg_id=2885881

We are dealing with Joe Klein here, people. Consider their is a message being sent with this cover and story. And, consider that the very people we are saying we need to win, are the targets. Just consider this.
