Fla. Official Appeals Foley Sign Ruling
(AP) Florida's secretary of state on Thursday appealed a ruling that prohibits the posting of signs to tell voters in the district of disgraced former Rep. Mark Foley that his votes will go to another Republican.

Circuit Judge Janet Ferris ruled Wednesday that state law did not permit such signs to be posted in polling places.

Florida Secretary of State Sue Cobb, an appointee of Republican Gov. Jeb Bush, asked the 1st District Court of Appeal to reverse the ruling. The court agreed to expedite the case. Early voting for the Nov. 7 election begins Monday.

Cobb's appeal triggered an automatic stay of the injunction banning the signs. But Ferris lifted it later in the day, saying posting the signs would cause "irreparable injury" to the Florida Democratic Party, which also had a substantial likelihood of winning its lawsuit.

1. If the GOP thinks it is that important, they can send everyone a postcard
on their voter rolls. Let THEM eat the expense.

Why should the STATE have to pay for the party's "candidate problems?"

2. Too Bad
A part of me sees nothing wrong with an informational sign to let voters know Mark Foley has been replaced by Joe Negron. After all, any one who is paying attention knows who the players are, and if they aren't paying attention, do they know who Negron is?

BUT....
The Republicans have fought every effort, and made it harder for Dems and other outreach groups to educate voters. Now, they want to inform voters of Foley's replacement. They can go suck an egg.

3. Yeah, it might be a good idea except there's a law against it
If they don't like the law, they should go through the process of changing it instead of shopping the court for an activist judge who will litigate from the bench ;)

4. if the Dems have to inform everyone that no ID is required to vote...
the GOP bloody well has to inform their people that a vote for their chickenhawk candidate = a vote for the replacement.
