1. Is it because it's the Friday night before Halloween?

Is everyone else out at costume parties? Jeez. Am I the only nerd watching debates tonight?

Is anyone there? :eyes:

Oh well. Debate's over. Good one.

Have fun everyone! :toast:

2. Florida Senate Debate?
Ah, that's a Congressional race for Foley's seat, not a Senate race.

Mahoney good? He sounds more republican than democrat to me.

And "that woman" was a democrat who got bumped out of the picture by a more-or-less DNC-appointed candidate, so she got mad and ran as an independent.

She did have a bit of the deer-in-headlights quality about her, if that's what you're inferring.

3. Mahoney is no Liberal
Edited on Sat Oct-28-06 12:54 AM by tkmorris
That's for certain. Of course, the conventional wisdom is that a Liberal could not have won that race, no chance. That was before the Foley fiasco; things obviously changed a great deal after that. The fact that Negron is polling less than 10 points behind in a race he just entered a couple of weeks ago, and that against a centrist Dem, leads me to believe it's likely true.

My personal politics are a good deal left of almost everyone in the Democratic party. However I am a committed realist. If we are to move this country left step one is to regain control of Congress, even if it takes a few Mahoney types to do it. As long as he gets the win, I'm fine with him. For now.

Oh and by the way, welcome to DU. Just noticed you're new here.

6. Mahoney was a Republican until last August.
Rahm and our party chair recruited him. There were two Democrats in the race. But he is more centrist.

If I were in that district I would vote for him this time, but the fight to change the party begins after the election.

4. You're right
I misspoke. Mahoney sounded better the more I listened to him, and the independent candidate Ellie something (sorry, I didn't catch her last name) seemed REALLY angry at him--and I guess it put me off a bit. I don't know much about that race, obviously, so my reactions were based more on their words and demeanors in this debate. I liked her better when she started talking about her anti-war stand. And the Republican was belligerent and stupid (as usual).
