just checked the local rag (VA Pilot, who endorsed Webb, BTW), and after voting on a question about Allen's idiotic accusations about Webb's writing fiction as if it were a true representation of Webb's character, the vote was a lopsided 71% to 33% in favor of Webb. Also, there was a section for comments, with comments favoring Webb around 80%, with a handful of wingnuts backing Allen. That was encouraging. Personally, I am truly disgusted with Allen. Just when I thought the Ahole couldn't stoop any further, he comes out with this moronic accusation about a work of Fiction, for God's sake. I am so hoping that this dispicable tactic blows the hell up in Allen's face and he loses big time.

Jim Webb wrote novels about the Vietnam war in which he portrayed war and life in some Asian cultures not to the liking of George Allen and his ilk. In his novels he has written about that ever so taboo subject of sex. And oh, how they are so offended that, gasp, he should ever write about SEX. But, but...Mr. Allen, didn't your fellow republicans Newt Gingrich and of all people, another huge gasp, Lynn Cheney, and oh, my, another one Lewis "Scooter" Libby...you remember? the one who leaked the name of an undercover CIA agent in order to smear Joe Wilson who dared to tell the truth to us Americans about our being led into an illegal, unjust war in Iraq, didn't they all write books with lurid sex in them? Yes, Lynne Cheney wrote about lesbians making torrid love and then she says, well, maybe her book didn't portray that. Well, duh, what do you call sex between two women...bisexual steamy sex? And old Scooter? Well, his young girls are caged and fed through bars so they will be ready for sex with bears!!!! Bestiality. What could be more disgusting? If these examples aren't enough preoccupation with sex by the republicans, you only have to look to the Mark Foley saga. There are many more sexcapades going on, but you get the picture. George Allen, how dare you question the writings of someone who experienced the horrors of war first hand...even the sex? You and most of your Beltway cronies know nothing of war and cultures of other parts of the world. You have been too busy being a racist and cutting the head off a deer and placing it in a black person's mailbox and displaying your Confederate flag and noose and pulling your sister up the stairs by her hair! And keeping your wealth in stock options from being made public. And now your closed documents of your divorce are being investigated???And you talk about Webb demeaning women? What hypocrisy!!!

The real issues are being swept under the rug by Allen and his henchmen because they don't have the guts to talk about what really matters the most in this country: the incompetence of this administration, the economy, the environment, health care for all, immigration, the loss of our freedoms under the present regime, minimum wage, a self-sufficient energy policy, corporate fraud, lobbyist fraud, and the biggest of all, IRAQ. When will the people of Virginia take the time to listen, to read, to learn about what has happened to this wonderful country of ours in the last 6 years?

And I blame Clinton for all of the above! Yeah, right.

11. It was a great rally with Webb....

Everyone was so fired up, and I was really struck by the sheer diversity of the crowd at the school today. Just amazing, everyone from all walks of life there to support Webb and the local congressional candidates.

Warner and Kaine are simply class acts. They will personally carry Jim Webb over the finish line and kick Allen's butt if it's the last thing they do, you could just tell from their attitudes. These two are in it for the long haul for the Commonwealth.

By contrast, last night I went to a debate over that awful "marriage amendment" that will be on the VA ballot, and one of the sponsors, Delegat Bob Marshall, was there as part of the panel. That man is about as big of a homophobe and all-around nasty, narrow-minded person you could ever encounter. My friends and I, all having friends and family that are gay or lesbian, were simply shocked and appalled last night, to hear such ugliness.

Geez, I hope I am never that big of an asshole to people.
