Kerry Apologizes AGAIN! Official Statement:
Now, enough already! Let's get back to holding Bush accountable and winning this election.

http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/Kerry_apologizes_again_for_remarks_1101.html

John Kerry's Press Release: (link above)

"As a combat veteran, I want to make it clear to anyone in uniform and to their loved ones: my poorly stated joke at a rally was not about, and never intended to refer to any troop.

I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform, and I personally apologize to any service member, family member, or American who was offended.

It is clear the Republican Party would rather talk about anything but their failed security policy. I don’t want my verbal slip to be a diversion from the real issues. I will continue to fight for a change of course to provide real security for our country, and a winning strategy for our troops."

28. But sincere in that he does admit that poor wording on his
part allowed them to do it. That sincerity makes it not a "John Lennon" appology.

Imagine if Bush ever apologized for misquotes he said

"Vacationing" and "campaigning" would quickly slip to nos. 2 & 3 for "time spent as president."

5. so yesterday he apologizes for nothing
so what does this mean? buckling under the pressure? This only fans the flames. If he would've quietly put this out yesterday this would've been a non issue. Now we have contradicting statements out.

8. wrong again
Yesterday he refused to apologize to Bush for his intended insult.

Today he apologizes to any troops who might have misinterpreted him.

This is in no way a contradiction.
He still thinks the President is an idiot.
He still supports the Troops.
end of story

14. Oh please.
Don't even go there. Have you never been in this sort of situation before? I have. I've said something in an organizational context that either didn't come out right or was purposefully taken the wrong way by people in power, and what you do is try your best to counteract the negative spin--like Kerry did yesterday. You show that you know darn well that you did nothing wrong. But by this time, the spinners have convinced innocent bystanders that you are the devil incarnate. So you apologize to the bystanders because they got caught in the middle.

That's what Kerry is doing. He made his point yesterday. We all know that the Republicans are being--in his words--"despicable." Even the Republicans know this.

But for the sake of the people who are being lied to and used in this mess, he issued an apology TO THEM for the fact that his statement was so grossly abused.

We all know that it wasn't his fault. We all know that he didn't really owe anyone an apology for anything. But now he's on record, both for defending himself and reaching out to the people who were caught in the crossfire. They know what happened. They know the truth.

But this is the actions that an honorable person takes. This is the action that a person with great humility takes in order to show respect and appreciation for people he cares about. He did this for the troops. He did this for his party. He did it because he is not a selfish person looking out for just his own interests. He did this because he has got WAY more class than the right-wingers will ever have.

This is the clear difference between him and Bush. Bush defends his completely indefensible behavior and never apologizes for anything. Kerry uses his very minor slip-up to not only defend himself but slam the entire smear machine going after him, and then turns his attention to showing honor and respect to the innocent people who were taken advantage of by the smear.

That's what a true leader does. I'm very impressed.

21. Are you kidding?
Like their friends in GOP, the MSM will stop at nothing to fan the flames of this stuff, with people like Tim Russert instantly declaring that "the damage was done."

They don't want a stupid non-issue like this to fizzle. Once they smell blood in the water (or pour it in the water themselves), nothing's going to get them to back off.

Reporters are smart enough to know this is a total bullshit issue. But they love it, and they're not going to pass up the chance to make a big stink about it.

Of course, a number or RW meme pushers surfaced in our own party, so he issued a second statement: RW distorted the comments.

Sad, that he has to explain this to other Democrats!

Now just watch, it will blow over as fast as it blew up. I don't know who's advising Kerry but he should have done this much sooner. I'm glad its behind us now so now we can get back to winning.

18. The more attention that's focused on this the better
because it focuses on Iraq, contradictory to the GOP's main strategy. It's too bad this might end any coverage on the matter.

or is it about the botched joke that Kerry made concerning Iraq? There is a difference.

38. It's both.
They can't think about the latter without considering the former. It's at John Kerry's expense of course, but overall it helps the Democrats.

27. And will this still be in the news on Thursday, Friday...?
How many more days will it be that Kerry is apologizing to this group of people if they misunderstood his attempt at a joke that was intended for Bush? The more Kerry has to explain and not apologize-apologize, the more the news is about him and not about the campaign. Let's not blame the Republicans too much because we would do the same if we had the opportunity. That's what political campaigns are about--down and dirty and no Marquis of Queensberry rules.

32. why didn't he say, clearly, that was talking about *?? I don't think he's
clarified that. it sounds like he's saying, I'm sorry I offended you. Why the F**K didn't he say, I meant, if you aren't well educated, you will end up as commander in chief getting stuck in Iraq (instead of making wise decisions like not invading sovereign nations that have done nothing to us and that will fight mightily to preserve their sovereignty).
