John Edwards: "Vote Democratic & Give Workers a Raise"
From email today:

I just took advantage of the opportunity to vote early here in Chapel Hill. I've been on the road campaigning for Democrats in Nevada, Arizona and Colorado -- and now I'm off to Maryland, Pennsylvania and Ohio. It's not too much to say that in this election and the one that follows, the future of the world is at stake. I'm asking you to get everyone in your life and on your email lists to vote on November 7th.

Everywhere I go, I meet people -- even folks who used to vote Republican -- who are sick of scandals and corruption in Washington, D.C.

They're concerned that America has lost its position as a moral leader in the world. And they can't understand why we have 37 million of our own people who wake up every day worried about feeding and clothing their children.

Americans know in their hearts that we're better than this.

This election is about change, about transforming America and about transforming how the rest of the world sees America.

I'm optimistic. Charlie Cook of the non-partisan National Journal says of the coming election: "The blue wave of the future is clear." He's right -- we have the opportunity to elect historic numbers of Democrats to retake control of the House and the Senate.

While we should be optimistic, we should never take a single vote for granted. We especially need you to contact family and friends in the states that have ballot initiatives to give minimum wage workers a raise and index their wages to inflation: Arizona, Colorado, Missouri, Montana, Nevada and Ohio. Winning minimum wage ballot initiatives in these six states will be a huge step toward lifting millions of working families out of poverty.

I've been inspired to see Democrats so united and energized. In the last year and a half, I've traveled to 39 states, appeared at more than 150 fundraisers, and raised more than $7.6 million for Democratic candidates, party committees and allied organizations. Please do everything you can to support the Democratic Party -- vote, volunteer, give money and -- most of all -- get your friends and family to the polls this Election Day, November 7th.

I'm looking forward to celebrating many victories with you. Thank you for your efforts to help Democrats and working families win on November 7th.

Your friend,

John

P.S. The number one reason that people vote is because a friend or a family member asked them. Please forward this message and spread the word.

2. JRE is right...and here's what I am doing for David Gill, IL-15
I am going on a maiden voyage into GOTV phone banking on next Monday night. I wanted to canvass in the neighborhood, but I developed Plantar Fasciitis about 6 weeks ago, and it's a bit painful considering I stay on my feet quite a bit as it is.

Anyway, other than a script, I'd appreciate any advice in how to sound authentic when phone banking (if I have to use a cell to do it) and other tips since I am a newbie!

If you would have asked me 3 years ago that I would be so involved with getting some Dems elected, such as GOTV via phone banking, I would have said, "no, I hate getting phone calls at home, so I don't want to bother someone."

But we (and I) have to do it, for us, our country, and for better leadership in the world.

Any tips for me?

In case you hadn't heard, "You Go-Gill" parties next Tuesday night:

Champaign County: Shaw-Larosa’s residence, 2709 Prairie Meadow, Champaign

McLean County: Del Forge’s new building next to City Consignments, 422 N. Main St., Bloomington

Coles County: Gill Office, 610 Jackson Avenue, Charleston

And I'm certain all offices need help Sunday and Monday nights for GOTV phone banking.

Go David Gill! He's got the prescription for America! See my blog post from a Gill rally not long ago: http://bennycat.blogspot.com/2006_09_24_bennycat_archiv...

3. The only advise I have is, smile.
It comes through in your voice if you are smiling when you dial the nunber. And the time goes quicker, too.

5. "Raise Montana": Hoping to win big here
Go to restaurants and talk to the staff. Go to the manicurist and beauty salons. Get the women out to vote. Single women and single mothers are the minimum wage workers, not slackers and teenagers. Tell the women that they can turn the tide. Time for a housecleaning.
