Secretly, the Repubs have already given up on the House...
and are focusing primarily on the Senate. They cannot afford to lose both. That is why Bush is in Montana today and will probably go to AZ later. Tomorrow and thru the weekend and Monday, expect him to visit Mo and TN and VA. And if they think they have a shot in NJ, expect him to visit there also. However, my guess would be that his final stop may be somewhere in the state of VA? They are really worried about that seat. Democrats should be on the full offensive behind Jim Webb, and I'm sure they are.

2. What is the best tactic to defend Webb?
We need to pull out all the stops to keep Bush from getting all the news coverage.

4. Yes, in fact it has been twisted against Webb see here

There was a thread about MSNBC misrepresenting the story saying a liberal blogger rushed Senator Allen before being dragged down.

6. Last time Bush visited VA in a close race, his candidate lost.
Bush in unpopular in VA. He only has a 40% approval rating there.

7. They are definitely behind Webb.
DNC has been putting out TONS of ads down in VA. I'm in the DC metro region, so I get to see them all. It's been a pretty good campaign on our side so far.

9. BUsh will be like a load of ballast for MO
and I wouldn't see Talent wanting him there.
But that doesn't mean he won't show up in Branson or Sprngfield.
But I think he will be a drag on the campaign.

10. As always, you are spot on, Kentuck.
They've thrown in the towell for the House and shoving the last of their cash to hold the Senate.

Most of all, Republicans, even their "base" are demoralized.

12. Heard on NPR tonight.....
Stephen Smith, Washington Univ. - St. Louis, political science professor or some such.

He said that the GOP is now just trying to turn out their base. Sounds like damage control.

Bush doesn't want to go to blue states and energize the Democratic base. The GOP also doesn't seem to see much chance or capturing independents and moderates. They just want to get some of their people into the lifeboats before the ship goes under. At least, it appears that way right now.

As others have noted the GOP studied and improved upon the GOTV work that they learned from the Democrats and the unions. We'll need to see the dust settle in the days following November 7th to find out what REALLY happened in the 2006 election.
