Paul Newman weighs in for Lamont !!! ad Takes Swing At Joe!

HARTFORD, Conn. - Ned Lamont may be trailing in the polls, but he's got one of America's biggest celebrities going to bat for him: Paul Newman.

The actor appears in a new 30-second TV spot for Lamont, who is running for a Senate seat, the campaign announced Thursday.

"It's tough times out there, and Connecticut needs someone who is young, fresh and spunky," Newman, a longtime resident of Westport, Conn. urges voters. Lamont is 52. Incumbent Sen. Joseph Lieberman (news, bio, voting record) is 64.

Newman also recalls Lieberman's campaign in 1988 when he unseated former Sen. Lowell Weicker.

"Eighteen years ago, when Joe Lieberman was running against Lowell Weicker, Joe's battle cry was, `18 years is enough,'" Newman says. "I suppose Joe said that because he knew that after 18 years the good old boys club trumped good government. Voters should take your advice Joe, 18 years is enough. Vote for Ned Lamont."

Newman, in a radio ad for Lamont, also takes aim at Lieberman's decision to run as an independent after losing the August Democratic primary. Lieberman's independent bid has rankled many Democrats.

"When the voters in the primary chose Ned Lamont over Joe Lieberman, they were sending a message," Newman says. "But Mr. Lieberman wasn't listening. He turned his back on the very party that had supported him for 18 years. Entitlement — that's what 18 years in the Senate does to you."

The Lieberman campaign had no immediate response to the Newman ads

1. All I can say is that if I were running for office ...
... and PAUL NEWMAN came out against me, I'd just pack up my bags and go home.

It's over, Joe.

2. Absolutely!
If Paul Newman told me to jump off a cliff, I'd ask "Which one?" But Paul would never ask that (of a Democrat) because he is truly a gentleman.

I'm rooting for Lamont here in IL-10, Dan Seals country!!!

3. "It's Over" is the first thought that jumped into my head when I read it....
Having worked phones in a more conservative district, I can tell you there are a lot of people in CT riding the fence. Most of them need a name to recognize with, and Paul is worshiped by many.
Once this hits the MSM press, it's OVER!!!

6. Here in CA...
...I am pulling for Lamont to beat out that SOB DINO LIEberman. I am so very thankful that Paul Newman came up to the plate on this and hit a freaking home run right out of the park. I, too, believe that his endorsement will give Lamont a very nice boost in the polls.

Thank you, Mr. Newman. You are greatly admired by me for doing this!

11. I have a picture behind me on the
wall that I cut out of The Nation years ago that has Newman holding a puppy in his hands and The Nation in his teeth. It says .."Give friends a magazine they can sink their teeth into!"

Gotta love an actor who he reads the same esoteric political magazine that you do in these "tough times".

15. I lived up in Westport
and everyone loves Paul, though everyone respects his privacy. He held the door for me in a grocery store one day and I pretended he was just anybody, though I was thrilled to death. A roofer friend of mine did some work for him at his house. It was around Christmas and Paul invited him in for a drink. Reid begged off because he was in his work clothes, but Paul insisted he come in. I remember reading how a girl's car was stuck in a snowbank and Paul pulled over in his souped-up VW to help. He's very involved in local issues and is opening a restaurant adjacent to the Westport Country Playhouse, a famous summer stock theater his wife has managed until last year.

I'm glad he's involved in this election.

Or does Ru$h only pick on those he considers fellow "fakers"?
