VoteVets going after Melissa Hart in PA-04
Got the e-mail below this morning.
Don't know much about this particular race, but a quick google tells me they're neck and neck.
In any case, VoteVets.org is doing GREAT work and deserves every dollar we can manage to send their way.

Dear VoteVets.org Supporter,

Today, we are unveiling a version of our "Cutting Veterans Health Care" advertisement against Pennsylvania Rep. Melissa Hart and I wanted to let you know.

You can view the ad here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y31l5w-LSQo.

We are saturating her media market, to ensure everyone sees it. But we need your help to get this ad up in other districts. We've got other versions, ready to go, but they will only see the light of day if you help us out- and we have 24 hours to make this happen! Please help us keep these ads running by making a contribution here.

As you may remember, the ad features Tomas Young, a veteran of the war in Iraq. Tomas signed up for military service just a few days after the 9/11 attacks, having seen the President stand at the rubble of the world trade center, promising vengeance against those who did us harm. In March 2003, he was deployed to Iraq, and was shot while riding in an unarmored truck.

This left him paralyzed from the chest-down. Many others are coming home from Iraq , severely injured, both mentally and physically, and need the Department of Veterans Affairs to have enough funding to meet their needs.

Yet, Melissa Hart voted for a resolution ordering the House Veterans' Affairs (VA) Committee to cut benefits or to tax veterans by increasing their fees. According to the Congressional Budget Office, the budget resolution required Congress to make $155 million in cuts to veterans' benefits in fiscal year 2006, and $798 million over the next five years, by fiscal year 2011. . But she wasn't the only one.

Help us let others know how their Congress members failed the troops and veterans- we have a few hours to get this on more airwaves. Please, Donate here.

2. Wrong one
that was Melissa Joan Hart, this is Melissa A Hart

from Wikipedia

She is Catholic and anti-abortion. She is firmly opposed to embryonic stem cell research; her opposition is unusual among her Congressional colleagues, in that she takes issue with the validity of the science itself, rather than questioning the morality of the science. In January 2006, she addressed an anti-abortion rally in Washington, D.C., urging young people who opposed abortion to enter public

5. Never mind
especially if she's anti-reproductive rights.

6. Melissa Hart is the Republican incumbent
Sorry if I was unclear about that, but that's why I said VoteVets was going after her. They are exposing Hart for the anti-troop witch she is.

She's running against Democratic challenger Jason Altmire. Her re-election was considered pretty safe until just this last week or so, but now it looks like it could go either way.

I may be wrong, but as I understand it, VoteVets is a 527, so cannot campaign FOR anyone. But they can advocate for their cause by identifying those who against what they stand for.

8. I think VoteVets is funded by private contributions
I'm not sure if it's a 527, a PAC or not-for-profit. I know it claims to be non-partisan tho. Back when it called itself IAVA (Iraq Afghanistan Veterans Assoc, iirc), it claimed it would endorse Iraq/Afghan war vets from either party so long as they met its endorsement criteria. Ummm... in case you're wondering, no Repubs qualified. ;)

Whatever its tax status, I don't think VoteVets can accept money from the DNC directly. It's up to folks like us to keep it going.
