It looks like Webb is dramatically closing the gap in Virginia.
Up until about a week ago, George Allen was holding a relatively consistent 2-3 point lead in polling. I could find, at best, one poll where Webb had a lead and was prepared to write it off as a narrow Republican victory. But now, Webb's damned near tied... either slightly ahead or slightly behind.

I hope this holds.

1. Jim Webb has been an awesome candidate.
A Webb win would essentially put the kibosh on a Macaca run at the presidency in 2008.

7. I think Allen's already pissed in his cornflakes on that one.
The fact that this profoundly dim bulb was ever considered a major contender is chuckle-worthy.

19. And VoteVets/Clark's ad, "It's because of Iraq", will help him and hurt Allen.
Anyone seen as "stay the course", a Bush-bot, blind supporter of the neo-cons, can't overcome this ad.

Clark ends the ad by saying "If you seen an ad that America should be worried about terror, remember. It's because of Iraq!"

Though I'm not sure California wants you.

3. VA-Sen will be Dem pick-up on Tuesday.
All the momentum in this race is in favor of Webb.
Allen is his own worst enemy.

6. webb has been ahead all week
momentum definitely on his side....

By the way, FAUX political correspondent was talking about Allen last night--basically giving a post-mortem on why he's lost this race.

11. When Allen refused to
apologize over the incident regarding Stark getting pushed around, it told me this election is over. Allen's votes have supported dubya more than a large majority of other republicans. His defeat isn't only good for Virginia, it's good for everyone.

14. Thank you
I wonder if there's a law that says at least 98% of people in MS are republicans? I really want to put some liberal bumper stickers on my car, but I know within 24 hours something awful will happen. If I'm lucky my car will get keyed...possibly have the tires slashed...perhaps even stolen.

There's GOT to be some liberals in MS, but we're a minority. I reported for duty here in July and still in shock.

17. We're a minority here in Okla too. I used to teach meteorology to
ANG troops at summer camp in Gulfport. A very long time ago. :D How's the rebuilding going down there? Been a few years since I was in the area...

24. Not many of us in Kansas either
Altho more on this side of the state than the other.

But my son just got back from Keesler AFB (he was in school there, as a weather guy), and it was a pretty big shock to him. I grew up in GA, so sort of knew what he should have expected.

Hang in there, thanks for your service, and welcome to DU! :hi:

18. WP is reporting Absentee balloting is twice the level of '02
and especially concentrated in Northern Virginia. I posted article in LBN. Also Rich Lowry says Allen ground operation is not up to snuff.

23. the law was changed to make it easier
One of the NoVA county Dem orgs. sent out a newsletter explaining that if you were expected to be of the county for even a minute on election day, you could vote absentee, in advance. So if you went shopping in the next county or worked in DC you qualified.

This would be a VERY sweet victory. Seeing Santorum go was good, but both of them? Sweet indeed.
