WTF?

This movie could open a lot of people's minds if it were available on DVD. Unlike many movies that are based on a book, it's been called "One of the best film adaptations of a book ever."

The more you pay attention to current events, the more it seems like Karl Rove sleeps with a copy of '1984' and 'Animal Farm' under his pillow every night.

This movie was made over 20 years ago. Virtually every film of any significance since then has been made into DVD, including many worthless bad movies of no significance at all. Making it available on DVD opens it up to a much wider audience... Netflix, etc... Why not this one? What's the hold up? Someone doesn't want to give away the "plans?"

1. It was on DVD, for a limited run.
Don't know why. I bought it at BestBuy a few years ago. Now you'd be hard pressed to find a copy at a reasonable price.

2. don't you think it would be a popular rental?
there's money to be made on that movie being a DVD. in a capitalist society I don't see a logical reason why it's not available

8. Oh, I never even knew about this version
Or, rather the TWO versions made in the 1950's.

I always thought the 1984 "1984" was the definitive version.

From the site:
Be sure to watch the three different movies made from this book:
1984 (1954) Peter Cushing is Winston Smith
1984 (1956) Edmond O'Brien is Winston Smith
Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984) John Hurt is Winston Smith

14. US DVD rights are held by MGM/UA
Edited on Sat Nov-04-06 12:12 PM by LiviaOlivia
MGM/UA was bought by SONY/Columbia Pictures. Write Sony. Or Tom Cruise, he's the big cheese now at United Artists. :)

edit: FYI-MGM chairman and CEO is Harry E. Sloan.
