Are we missing an opportunity?
The clip of Bush saying "Ask them 'What's your plan?'." was played over and over yesterday on the various news outlets. Isn't this the perfect opportunity for the big name Dems to call a press conference and say "Yesterday, President Bush asked us what our plan is. Here's our plan..." Big screen with bullet points on Iraq, War on terror, healthcare etc... The Pelosi 100 hours plan in black and white.

Wouldn't this be huge?

1. We've let the GOP set the agenda for too long.
This election isn't about the Dems plans, it's about Bush's endless failures. If anything, that's what the Dems should concentrate on.

2. Agreed.
Bush has been bragging about his stay-the-course strategy since day one. He's had advice from the best military minds, which he has consistently ignored.

Every time he now asks what the Democrat's plan is, he is driving home the obvious: HIS plan isn't working, never has, and never will.

Let him stew in his own juice for a while ...

3. While I would love to have him do that
I have to disagree. Not all of the people know there is a plan, unfortunately. What I hear the most is, sure the republicans have screwed up but, what are the dems gonna do about it all. I know there's a plan, you know there's a plan, but, we have to face the fact that the media keeps repeating the notion that the dems don't have a plan and people are buying it.

Not only would we have gotten that plan out there, it would have been incredibly timely to shove it in their faces. Take the "talking point" away with one simple swoop. I think it would have been grand but, alas, I think the time has past us by.

4. We don't need to let them control the debate
They cry... what is the Democrats' plan???? If we lay out a plan, they will just attack it. I don't think anyone that is not in power, not in the *secret* meetings can actually layout a plan to the public at this point and think that it will continue to be the plan. We have to be flexible, intelligent and willing to listen to experts on the matter to advise us through the situation. All polls are in favor of the Dems. Why would we lay out a strategic white paper right now for the Right wing to attack and one that we know will be changed with intelligence as different variables come forth? They would just attack that too. So... the best answer is that the Democrats will do what is best for our armed forces, the American public and the people of Iraq. We will not be handcuffed to an ideology or married to a failed strategy in an arrogant attempt to save face. We will follow an intelligent, well informed and humane course. We can however, illustrate goals such as having our armed forces out of Iraq and turning over control in 18-24 months. We will listen to all parties involved and work toward that best possible structure, etc....

And... WTF is the Republican plan????? Stay the course???? where the hell is that getting us or the Iraqis? It isn't f-in working. The Republicans have absolutely no plan to get our troops out of harms way and to restore peace to Iraq. None. No plan at all. They have nothing. They are not even willing to get rid of the failure that is Rumsfeld to send a message that America is taking the situation seriously and acknowledges it's failed execution of the Iraq war. They are not doing a damn thing to win, they have no plan, they are not willing to work with others to make things better. They are not flexible. They suck. They've betrayed the public trust, the World's trust and the troops.

So, no... I don't think the Democratic leadership needs to lay out a plan to the public at this point. They need to win control and act like the Statesmen and Women that they are... return adult leadership to our Legislative branch and work in a non-partisan way to make the absolute best situation that we can happen.

6. See, to me it's not about them controling the debate
These are things I'm hearing outside us politics junkies. I'm hearing this from Joe Blow down the street. Keeping track of who's controling the debate seems petty to me. It would seem to me, that a response would be more of an in your face kind of thing, not an answering their question sort of thing. Guess it's just how we percieve things. I just think that it would have given us much more of a stage to present the issues and what we're going to do about them. Something that even Joe Blow would like to at least hear about, which they aren't.
