Enough.
Exercise a little restraint and stop posting breathless "Lieberman will switch", and there's no way they won't steal it posts, not to mention, Kerry is through posts. It's less than 4 days until the election, and we don't need this sort of negativity. Personally, I think you're wrong: Lieberman will stay a dem, we're going to win the House, picking up 25+ seats, pick up 4 or 5 or more Senate seats, and John Kerry is our ally- not our enemy. If I'm wrong, feel free to lord it over me after the election, but please, wait until then.

If he was democrat, why then would he not listen the will of the CT democrats that voted him out?

4. I disagree with you...Lieberman is a repug, do you think that the
repugs wants him in is because he will vote dem...it might on some issues but the war NO...and I just can't understand how ct. could even think about putting him back in...and that goes for a good majority of repugs, I can't believe they want this war anymore than we do..

17. They want him in because he's less liberal than Lamont.
Edited on Sat Nov-04-06 03:12 PM by Infinite Hope
DUH, freaking DUH!

That doesn't mean they'd rather have him than Schlesinger. They are just being pragmatic. They know the winner will be Lieberman or Lamont. Bother are overall liberals. But Lieberman is less liberal on the war.

9. Joe Lieberman (Asshole, Neocon) is not a Democrat.
He might or might not caucus with the Democratic Party. Other than that you have some good points.

10. I agree
Lieberman has been a long standing democratic party member. No reason for him to jump ship. I think the repubs are hopeful he will jump ship, but they are wrong.John Kerry botched a joke not an election. Fox can have it's say in the matter, while it may swing a few votes away it is not enough to stop the clean sweep of the house & senate.

As for stealing - I'm just quietly bookmarking all the poll threads for later analysis.

12. If the Dems fail to take the Senate by at least two seats, Joe will flip.
He'll owe the Republicans too many favors not to. Plus, you can bet they've already offered him his pick of committee chairmanships. I'll bet you $13.47.

14. You're on!
No way is Lieberman gonna switich. There are many reasons why not, but this is enough for me: my mother who's known him for years and has been very involved in CT dem politics for nearly 40 years, says he won't, and it's not 'cause she's voting for him- she isn't.

15. He'll switch. He's into them for millions now.
Who do you think has been financing and running his "indy" campaign? Just wait 'til January, when the new Congress convenes. And warm up your PayPal account--that $13.47's gonna buy smoogatz most of a 12-pack of Newcastle's.

16. Just out of curiosity
how well do you know CT politics? I may not live there now, but I grew up in Fairfield County, and all of my family- all active in dem circles- live there. None of them thinks Joe will switch. and the money thing is a canard. Lieberman has just as much funding from dems.

23. I've been following the Lieberman/Lamont race pretty closely--
on Kos and elsewhere. And one thing that's evident is that a lot of CT Dem voters have a higher opinion of Joe's honesty than seems justified. He's anything but a party loyalist, as his indy run demonstrates--he's just another political opportunist looking for a way to hold onto power. That being the case, what's to stop him from jumping if the pot is sweet enough?

24. A lot of things
For one, Lieberman is a legacy kind of guy, and like most of the people we end up characterizing in tired evil/good terms, he's more complex than your cardboard cutout politician. He would--undoubtedly- forfeit his future career, and he'd be a pariah to the majority of voters in his state. Lieberman may not be honest, but I've never seen any evidence of his dishonesty. I just don't know, and neither do you.

26. "never seen any evidence of his dishonesty"? You jest of course.
The mere fact that he pretends to be a democrat is dishonest. The fact that he's bought & paid by insurance companies or that during the primaries in 2004 he was on Fox saying that all the Dem candidates deserved to lose because "they were giving this war a bad name" seems pretty damn dishonest to me. But what do I know?

20. do the math: Lieberman isn't getting a committee chairmanship
from the repubs. There are 17 standing Senate Committees; there are another half dozen or so select or joint committees. Which repub senator is going to be told he/she doesn't get a chairmanship to make room for Joe? Not. Going. To.Happen.

22. If it means the difference between the Repigs being the majority
or not, of course they will. What's the better deal--16 senior Repig chairmen + Joe, or being the minority and having control of nothing?
