Army Times: 'Time for Rumsfeld to go'

(CNN) -- An editorial to be published in an independent military publication Monday calls for Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to be replaced.

And the Pentagon is countering by saying the new "chorus of criticism" is "old news."

The editorial will appear Monday in the four weekly publications that serve the four main branches of the U.S. military, according to the senior managing editor for Army Times Publications, the papers' parent company.

It is owned by the Gannett Company, publisher of USA Today and many local U.S. newspapers.

The editorial was posted Saturday on the Web sites of the four publications: Army Times, Navy Times, Air Force Times and the Marine Corps Times. (Read the editorialexternal link)

It reads: "It is one thing for the majority of Americans to think Rumsfeld has failed. But when the nation's current military leaders start to break publicly with their defense secretary, then it is clear that he is losing control of the institution he ostensibly leads."

1. I am so sick of their pat answer "old news"
How many times do we have to hear that before people start putting 2 + 2 together.

2. And I say it again
The Army times is owned by Gannett. The Army times is not an offical publication of the U.S. Army. Just don't have the mistaken belief that the Army times is how the Army feels.

5. I thought it was more than just the Army...
...and what you said is certainly what the media and all of the republicans are saying as they minimize the call for resignation. They also minimized the retired generals when they called for a change in Iraq.

What would be a forum for the troops to air their grievances...and if they did call for the resignation of their leader, isn't that mutiny? I was under the impression that the troops would risk their freedom if they criticized their leader.

Murtha said that the military generals in Iraq are privately imploring him for help. The retired generals are speaking out, which is unprecedented. The conservative newspaper entitled Army times, calls for help. If they are not speaking for the troops--who is?

3. If it's "old news" why is it STILL popping up as new news?

6. Rummy is also Saddams best friend

He's a terrible leader and a friend of Saddam - why is he still around.
