Here Ya Go Seasat!! Robo-Calls In Sarasota!
Here's an emailer we got about what has been going on. Any suggestions about how to counter this??? There should be some mention of this NATIONALLY! I made calls yesterday and it was NOT a comfortable experience!

To our supporters in the 13th District:

Voters all across the 13th District have reported receiving nasty and misleading automated phone calls, sometimes as many as 10 a night.

These calls are not coming from Christine Jennings!

Many of these "robo-calls" impersonate Christine’s voice and create the impression that she is the person speaking. The calls are so long (they sometimes last several minutes) that few people listen to them all the way to the end, where they would hear that the calls are paid for by Vern Buchanan for Congress or the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC).

The purpose of these calls is to anger voters and suppress voter turn-out. And if we don’t respond with a fury, it’s going to work. The voters of Florida’s 13th District are outraged. The Bradenton Herald published an article about the calls, which you can read by clicking here.

Vern Buchanan and the NRCC are so desperate that this despicable campaign tactic is all they have left. We absolutely must fight back and we can’t do it without your help.

This is what we need you to do:

1. If you receive any of these robo-calls, please do your best to record them and notify us immediately. Call Kathy Vermazen at 941-366-8121 or email her at kathy@christinejenningsforcongress.com. Note the time of the call(s), caller ID, message, and disclaimer identifying who paid for the call. By collecting and logging this information, we can put an end to this despicable tactic.
2. Forward this email. Make sure your friends and colleagues know the truth. Every voter needs to know that Christine is not responsible for these calls!
3. Make an online donation right now. We need to run ads to make sure every voter knows that Vern Buchanan is trying to cheat his way to victory. There is precious little time left and we can’t fight back without receiving an online donation from you RIGHT NOW. Please click here and give whatever you can.

Thank you!

Paid for by Christine Jennings for Congress.

2. It sounds like they are using it as a national strategy.
The only good news about this is that Chameleon Charlie's campaign must be worried if they are having to resort to these tactics. You ought to forward that press release to Josh Marshall. His site is pretty widely read by pundits of both sides and the MSM. He can get the word out. The sleazy thing is that with Florida's weak campaign finance rules, they could use a 527 to put out these calls and no one would ever know it is from the Republicans.

4. TPM Muckraker background
Josh Marshall just linked back to this Kiel item from earlier in the week: http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/archives/001912.php

In at least 53 competitive House races, the National Republican Campaign Committee has launched hundreds of thousands of automated telephone calls, known as "robo calls."....
Bruce Jacobson, a software engineer from Ardmore, Pa., received three prerecorded messages in four hours. Each began, "Hello, I'm calling with information about Lois Murphy," the Democrat running against two-term incumbent Rep. Jim Gerlach in the Philadelphia-area district.

Worse yet is a feature I hadn't yet read about... if you hang up onthe call (before you catch that it is negative about the candidate rather than sponsored by the candidate) the auto robo-caller dials the number back... again and again.

5. Thanks For The Info... Yes, It's Automated Many Many People
are really mad! Try phone banking when this has happened. I told them yesterday that it was my last day!

I'm no quitter, but I'm not very fond of harassment, especially when you don't even get a chance to explain!
