Is Pavich within sight of Weller?

John Pavich is the Democratic challenger to the congressional seat held by Republican Jerry Weller. Weller has held the seat for a dozen years but has not had many serious opponents in a district once held by Democrat George Sangmeister.

Weller, too, is part of the Class of 1994 brought in by the "Contract with America" as a result of voter disgust after the first two years of the Clinton presidency.

By all accounts, Pavich should be a cakewalk for Weller. Pavich, so far, has had no money for either television or radio. His major new idea has been to enclose the nuclear power plants in a Tinkertoy maze of I-beams to stop terrorist attackers with hijacked airliners.

But Weller is running scared enough to go negative. A new Weller mailing paints Pavich as soft on immigration, proposing amnesty for illegals.

WHY YOU SHOULD CARE:
See this article from Wonkette
Jerry Weller, International Man of Mystery
http://www.wonkette.com/politics/jerry-weller/jerry-weller-international-man-of-mystery-210191.php

Son-in-law of a murderous Latin American Banana Republic dictator, husband to that dictator’s right-wing extremist daughter, possible page-fucker and all-around Republican congressman Jerry Weller is a man for our time.

And just like Bush and Rev. Moon, Weller has secret Latin American land holdings “just in case.”

Weirdly enough, Weller’s beachfront acreage is in Nicaragua — his wife and dictator father-in-law do their special work in nearby Guatemala.

To avoid the appearance of being an Global Criminal Mastermind or whatever, Weller asked his buddies in Congress for various waivers. He got them.

2. Why not donate to races where polls actually show...
it's within the realm of possibilities to take the district rather than just shooting from the hip after seeing negative advertising? If polls aren't close, the money could be far better used elsewhere IMO.

3. Did you actually read my post?
Obviously this race has tightened, as the newspaper article points out. If Weller didn't absolutely have to spend money on negative advertising at this late stage, he wouldn't.

Races all over the country that were lost causes a few weeks ago are tightening, and this is one of them. I gave money to the Dem in this race today, as well as Dems in 6 other races, three in the Senate, and all those races are close.

Now about your post. I'm hardly shooting from the hip, and you're drawing a big assumption about the polls in that race. Critical posts like yours, and the defeatest attitude it expresses, are not helpful here on DU, unless you'd prefer to discourage people from giving money to any candidate at all. Odd it certainly is that a post like yours would come from one with the screen name "infinite hope," unless your hopes are with the GOP.
